The discussion on our development list makes it clear that a lot of
folks are anxious for generified models. Most users if not all wish us
to release a quick release which is 1.3 + generics. The consequence is
that the core team will stop to support 1.3, and that everybody that

although i say this feeling badly about the possibility that mob rule could make johan's life harder.  in fact, if enough core developers are opposed to this plan, i think that probably overrules a user vote.  after all the core developers actually have to do all this work (and for free, i might point out).

my hope is that a 1.4 release with generics support and dropping 1.3 support could happen very quickly (a couple weeks plus) if everyone works on it.  that would be a big win for everyone.  if there are any generic problems that could use input from me, i'm happy to have a look.

I think Johan and other devs are happy with the results so far :-)
What Johan (and others) want to avoid is to have to maintain multiple
branches at the same time, which would be the case if we would go on
with 1.4 without putting 1.3 to EOL first.
