Romani Dance Workshop
Sani is finally teaching in Sonoma County! Come and join us for a wonderful community dance workshop of Romani (Gypsy) mahala (neighborhood) dances. Sani has new dances in his repertoire from various mahalas across the Balkan region- mostly free style, non-choreographed, and out of the box. These dances have been learned and will be taught in the traditional Romani way, visually and orally- no notes, syllabus or written rhythms. Roma have survived for centuries thanks to the oral traditions that are passed from generation to generation. This will also be an opportunity for people to get to experience the real culture, without reinforcing the stereotypes of so-called Gypsies. This music and dance belongs to the people and doesn’t need to be commercial at all! Tuesday, October 27 at 7 p.m.
In the Cooperage, Sonoma State University
