I have a 84 virago 700 that wont run on the front cylinder unless the choke is on, I know enough to know its a clogged pilot jet but when I pull the carbs down to clean them there is no pilot jet just a couple of tubes down into the float bowls. I have cleaned the tubes but still cant get it the run on that cylinder unless I have the choke on. Am I missing something on the pilot circuit? this bike has the hitachi carbs. Thanks in advance.

Take a really small wire and run it through the pilot tube. There may be an obstruction that air won't remove. Then blow it out with some carb cleaner. The other thing you should check is to make sure the O ring is intact and on the pilot screw. Sometimes these fall off or come apart. Go to www.bikebandit.com and check the OEM parts list under carbs for your bike and you will see the part. New ones come with a K&L Carb rebuild kit. Make sure the pilot screws are set at 2 1/2 turns from a soft seat to start your adjustment.
