1GB Trash. Permission denied.I have almost 1GB Trash in Gnome 'Trash' (Desktop Trash) I am not allowed to delete it. I got this Location-info: trash:/// Location: trash:///_RIKA-DELETE-OK%3F (a folder in Trash) trash:///_RIKA-DELETE-OK%3F/070614 (a file) I tried to do something about it via the terminal (cmd-line). But I cant locate 'Trash' (or it's contents). --how do I delete this trash? ... or how do I find the Trash (and contents) on the command-line, so I can do something about it. If I delete via the GUI I get: Error while deleting. There was an error deleting PC222481.JPG. Show more details: Error removing file: Permission denied CANCEL SKIP-ALL SKIP And: Sorry, could not change the permissions of "P6141423.JPG": Operation not supported by backend Herman in Philippines. -- ubuntu-users mailing list ubuntu-users@... Essentially .config is preferable to every app using their own .app file (which can become very disorganized). These files are not removed when you remove an application because they are not created by the package itself. If there is an app in there you no longer have installed, you can also remove its configuration if you like, same for an app which you would like to have reset to an unconfigured state. -- ubuntu-users mailing list ubuntu-users@... From TFM for apt-get: remove remove is identical to install except that packages are removed instead of installed. Note the removing a package leaves its configuration files in system. If a plus sign is appended to the package name (with no intervening space), the identified package will be installed instead of removed. purge purge is identical to remove except that packages are removed and purged (any configuration files are deleted too). -- Dotan Cohen http://what-is-what.com http://gibberish.co.il -- ubuntu-users mailing list ubuntu-users@... From TFM for apt-get: Actually, purge does not remove ~/.config directories or files. Neither apt-get nor aptitude will remove any files from a user's home directory. Purge (as opposed to remove) will delete system config directories and files for the package being purged; remove (as opposed to purge) will not. Whichever method you use, you will still be left with any config files in your user's home. Delete them manually if you don't want them anymore. That's misleading - by "any configuration files" it means "the ones we know about". Purging never does anything about the files in ~/, only the ones in /etc/. -- derek -- ubuntu-users mailing list ubuntu-users@... Keep in mind that configuration files stored in the user home directory are not installed with the package (those are in /etc directory) but are instead created on the fly when the user runs the application. If purge were to try to remove those files, the package would need to include a "search and destroy" script in post-uninstall, which would probably be considered somewhat dangerous. -- ubuntu-users mailing list ubuntu-users@...
