Recommends gpsdrive-data-maps, but gpsdrive-data-maps (2366) conflicts with
gpsdrive (< 2322), and 2.10svn2383 doesn't satisfy that.

Sure

chris123@compaq1:~$ sudo apt-cache search libmapnik
libmapnik-dev - C++/Python toolkit for developing GIS applications (devel)
libmapnik1d - C++/Python toolkit for developing GIS applications (libraries)

All installed with synaptic.

libmapnik1d ver 0.4.0-2
libmapnik-dev ver 0.4.0-2
mapnik-plugins ver 0.4.0-2
mapnik-utils ver 0.4.0-2

chris123@compaq1:~$ sudo apt-cache show libmapnik1d | grep Version

In general I would expect that it is the upstream versions which introduce
new API changes etc, so generalizing the minimum version to be (>= 1.34*)
should be enough in the control file. The min deb packaging version is
too gratuitous, not to mention misleading, and as we see here unportable.

[*] or better the version which introduced the req'd fn set

Just my reports as a Gentoo-user:
gpsdrive-svn (r2385) builds and runs fine here on Gentoo unstable using
the latest 0.6.0-release of mapnik (0.5.1 used to work, too but I needed
0.6.0 because of a python-related bug in <=0.5.1).
I left the build-options at the defaults (I didn't manually disable
anything).

Just some minor glitches (that have been there before and I assume you
are aware of them):
- - Oceans in mapnik rendering are pale-orange and not blue
- - Waterway-rendering seems to be broken (center of a river and both
riverbanks are blue lines but the river is not "filled with water"
between the riverbanks)
- - The left icon to change the zoom-level is displayed as a red "x" (the
two glasses above and the green cross right of it are fine). Might be
related to my gtk/gnome-installation, I use KDE here.

Nevertheless, I'm looking forward to have an up-to-date release.

Cheers,
        Jannis
