Hi gentlmen,
here we are with the 2.26 to be testing. First experience before I had
The Desktop you can see in previous mail, I had to battle X.
- I replaced file under /etc/X11/xinit/xinit.gnome (attached)
- gdm starts up with this dialog  "Could not update ICEauthority file /var/state/gdm/.ICEauthority"
- next dialog states "problem with configuration server
  (/usr/libexec/gconf-sanity-check-2 exited with status 256)" ; at
display manger start-up and at session login
- though I set X for french keymap, I only had QWERTY keymap on gdm

Why? The "new" one used to work on 2.24 and it was important to set
the seahorse and ssh agents, which are very helpful.

Works on sessions start-up.
NOT at gdm start-up.

I submitted a patch to the svn server that should fix this problem.
It mainly consists of creating a directory with the correct
permissions. Could you please issue the following command and tell me
if it solves the problem?

mkdir -p /etc/gconf/gconf.xml.system ; chmod 755 /etc/gconf/gconf.xml.system

It was already fixed in svn.

I just submitted a patch that is supposed to fix this.

Thanks for the reports.

Mohaa, how you mean that ??????
gdm needs to be started by default when you install dlg. so if it
works on startup of the computer we are ok.

At GDM start-up (when pc finalize runlevel 4) I still had the warning
box. That has not changed
But there's no warning box when user enters desktop. Not anymore.
Another thing unchanged on GDM is the keymap : it does not correspond
with xorg.conf setting

Ok I got it, thanks.

For this, in the new gdm you need to set it up at the beginning of the
session. And only the first time.
Then it will keep your settings.

I was used to GDM using "xorg.conf" Keyboard settings by default,
(the end-user would not have to take care twice for the keymap)
