2nd Announcement; MGED12 Next-Gen Sequencing and Translational Genomics Conference

Dear Colleagues,

This is a reminder for the 12th International meeting of the MGED society, MGED12, Next-gen sequencing and translational genomics, to be held in Phoenix, Arizona, October 6-8, 2009. The meeting will be preceded by a day of tutorials and workshops on Monday, October 5th.



The scientific focus of the meeting will be next-gen sequencing and translational genomics and associated data handling issues and analysis techniques. With the growing demand for high throughput sequencing annotation standards and tools, this year's meeting will offer more 'hands-on' tutorials and workshops to tackle specific practical applications of these concepts. Tutorials will cover in depth data analysis and how to use BioConductor.
 


We have lined up some outstanding speakers, who are leaders in their respective fields. Some of the confirmed speakers include Elaine Mardis, Hank Greely, Lynda Chin, and John Quackenbush. In addition, this year we will again select half of the plenary speakers from submitted abstracts, to encourage greater participation in the MGED community. And, as in years past, we will again be running a poster competition, with prizes for the best three posters presented by graduate and postdoctoral students.

NHGRI has awarded the MGED meeting with a grant that will reimburse registration and travel expenses up to $2000 for students or post-doctoral researchers.  To be eligible, students or post-docs must submit an abstract for a poster or talk and be a US citizen.  Reimbursed air travel must be ticketed on a US carrier.  

A deadline of September 5th has been set for abstract submission, and those abstracts chosen for travel awards and/or selected for plenary lectures will be notified by at least 2 weeks prior to the meeting.
