3.0 and calculated fields

Is it just me or do calculated fields and aliases have problems?  I try
to use the GUI design interface and create a calculated field.  It then
try to reference that alias in another field or report and have nothing
but problems.

Can you elaborate this? And, can you try whether your problems persist
in 3.1 (or even some recent snapshot towards 3.2)?
