3D windows effect makes Xorg crashHello,
I am trying to set up compiz fusion on a Dell OptiPlex 330 (Intel Pentium E2180, 2Go DDRII, G33 Chipset). I have performance problems and as soon as I activate the 3d windows effects X server crashes. Details, configuration files and logs : http://forum.compiz-fusion.org/showthread.php?t=10009 Adamk on this forum advised me to post here. This problem is not a big concern to me, I am trying to setup this just to fill up my idle time at work. So if you want to improve G33 support I can help you by doing some tests. If you don't have time, no worries, I'll survive without 3D windows :) -- Cordialement, Pierre BARDOU CSIM - Bureau 012 Midi Pyrénées Informatique Hospitalière 12 rue Michel Labrousse BP93668 F-31036 Toulouse CEDEX 1 Tél : 05 67 31 90 84 Fax : 05 34 61 51 00 Mail : bardou.p@... |

The only obvious issue that I see from your logs is that write combining failed, which would have an impact on performance. Once we are sure that you are on the latest code, if there are still issues, we can look into those. It is also plausible that this is an issue with mesa handling the g33, but that would likely show up on linux as well. Our ports will get xorg-7.4 once 7.1 is released, which will update mesa to 7.2 as well. FWIW, even the water plugin is finally working correctly for me with the update. robert. > > > If you = don't have time, no worries, I'll survive without 3D > windows :) > > > > -- > > Cordialement, > > > > Pierre BARDOU > > CSIM - Bureau = 012 > > > > Midi Pyrénées = Informatique Hospitalière > > 12 rue Michel = Labrousse > > BP93668 > > F-31036 Toulouse CEDEX = 1 > > > > Tél : 05 67 31 90 = 84 > > Fax : 05 34 61 51 = 00 > > Mail : [2]bardou.p@... > > References > > 1. 3D"http://forum.compiz-fusion.org/showthread.php?t=10009" > 2. 3D"mailto:bardou.p@..." |

RE: 3D windows effect makes Xorg crashHello,
I did a make buildworld this morning. Previous was on Monday... The problem is still the same : 3D windows makes X crash and my PC returns to GDM. If I login again, the WM doesn't even launch. I tried water and fire effect, no problems. For the performance issue, I thought there was a problem because I have another PC with compiz fusion (built in ubuntu 8.04), which performs better (wobbling windows, cube and fire are much more fluid) despite of better colors (ubuntu uses 24 bith depth, my freeBSD 16) and worse hardware (Pentium D, 1Go DDRII, 945G chipset). RE: 3D windows effect makes Xorg crashDon't worry, I can wait.
If you want to test a patch, I can do it too. You decide :) I can provide you a core dump if you want, but I don't know how to make it :$ Could you explain me ? Server aborting I'm guessing that this is coming from mesa, but a core dump would help a lot. A new X and mesa are waiting in the wings until 7.1 is released. I could probably get you an advance patch if you want to try that. robert. > (II) AIGLX: Suspending AIGLX clients for VT switch > (II) intel(0): xf86UnbindGARTMemory: unbind key 1 > (II) intel(0): xf86UnbindGARTMemory: unbind key 2 > (II) intel(0): xf86UnbindGARTMemory: unbind key 3 > (II) intel(0): xf86UnbindGARTMemory: unbind key 4 > (II) intel(0): xf86UnbindGARTMemory: unbind key 5 > > > -- > Cordialement, > Pierre BARDOU > > -----Message d'origine----- > De : Robert Noland [mailto:rnoland@...] Envoyé : vendredi 17 > octobre 2008 14:41 À : BARDOU Pierre Cc : freebsd-x11@... > Objet : RE: 3D windows effect makes Xorg crash > > On Fri, 2008-10-17 at 14:18 +0200, BARDOU Pierre wrote: > > Hello, > > > > I did a make buildworld this morning.
