3d Scanning in perthHi everyone, i've been googling it on and off for a few days now without any promising results so i thought i'd ask pigmi.
Is there some sort of 3d scanning available in perth? For 3d modelling, i'm interested to see how much it would cost to get something scanned. I found these videos which i found really interesting, not sure if anyone else is interested in this. This one is a how to make your own cheap 3d scanner guide http://revision3.com/systm/laserscan/ This one astonished me, they scan in a broken engine part using a 3d scanner called NextEngine 3d scanner and then a machine prints the part out in 3d, in plastic. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ggvzcGdZsTc I think this stuff is really amazing, it'd be good if anyone could let me know about any facilities in perth that will let me do this, or also just if anyone has had any experience with these sort of machines and processes. Thanks :) -- ______________________________ My latest work, and news http://www.bobostuff.com/ |

Re: 3d Scanning in perthIt's pretty rewarding scanning stuff, and you can get good results
using a laser liner. I worked with a few people at my previous employer (ViSLAB) to make a laser scanner a few years ago (2005) using a laser liner and a lazy susan (turntable); mixing the two together, we called the project LazyScan. Here's an old (out-of-date, partially complete wiki page): - http://wiki.vislab.usyd.edu.au/moin.cgi/LazyScan At demos we usually scanned Mr Potato-head and the monkey shown in the image on the wiki page, but I couldn't find many images of results online. Only this one of a (boring) box: - http://www.vislab.usyd.edu.au/?q=node/8 The software was written in C under Linux. I've often thought about revisiting it with a simpler design (a handheld device), and releasing the software as Open Source. Not too much impetus given that David 3D Scanner is available cheaply though. Although it would be neat to see what results you could get with one of those new "pocket projector" which could scan a large area at once! Re: 3d Scanning in perthAlso on the DIY front there's this:

> http://revision3.com/systm/laserscan/ That's pretty nifty. Poking around on the forums at DAVID Laserscanner, it looks like you can get some pretty decent results with a very dark room and a projector. This means that if you've got a decently focusable camera that takes movies and a projector - there's no cost to start playing with this. I'll give it a go this week and let you guys know how I go! :) Will Dowling T: +61 (0407) 421 559 F: +61 (08) 6364 4881 E: will@... --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: pigmi-unsubscribe@... Might be an interesting way to fund development. There's that place in one of the covered malls off Hay St that does those 'bubbles in crystal' sculptures; they've told me in the past they'd be happy for me to come in with a USB key or blank CD if I wanted to get the data from doing a face scan of myself (I never got around to it, so I can't say anything about how useful the data is). --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: pigmi-unsubscribe@... Re: 3d Scanning in perthThey have an office in Perth, but I don't know if they do the scanning here.
Also, UVLayout rocks. That is all ;) -Joel jezza-istpika wrote: > pros in the hills. > > http://www.headus.com/au/ > --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: pigmi-unsubscribe@... For additional commands, e-mail: pigmi-help@... |
