4.5-beta wacky HD-interface?L.S.,
I was planning to send this to dmesg@ but after seeing <http://marc.info/?l=openbsd-misc&m=123594462403774&w=2> I opted for ppc@ I'm wondering what I'm being told here. Is my HD bad or just the interface in the machine? I've tested my HD several times with spinrite in an i386 machine, no errors were found. Basically what I would like to know, are others seeing this behaviour on macppc? Regards, Jasper root on wd0a swap on wd0b dump on wd0b wd0e: aborted command, interface CRC error reading fsbn 130624 of 130624-130635 (wd0 bn 9833884; cn 10406 tn 3 sn 25), retrying wd0: soft error (corrected) wd0a: aborted command, interface CRC error reading fsbn 135604 of 135604-135635 (wd0 bn 138439; cn 146 tn 7 sn 28), retrying wd0a: aborted command, interface CRC error reading fsbn 135604 of 135604-135635 (wd0 bn 138439; cn 146 tn 7 sn 28), retrying wd0: transfer error, downgrading to Ultra-DMA mode 1 wd0(pciide0:0:0): using PIO mode 4, Ultra-DMA mode 1 wd0a: aborted command, interface CRC error reading fsbn 135604 of 135604-135635 (wd0 bn 138439; cn 146 tn 7 sn 28), retrying wd0: transfer error, downgrading to Ultra-DMA mode 0 wd0(pciide0:0:0): using PIO mode 4, Ultra-DMA mode 0 wd0a: aborted command, interface CRC error reading fsbn 135604 of 135604-135635 (wd0 bn 138439; cn 146 tn 7 sn 28), retrying wd0: soft error (corrected) wd0(pciide0:0:0): timeout type: ata c_bcount: 16384 c_skip: 0 wd0d: device timeout reading fsbn 1691132 of 1691132-1691163 (wd0 bn 3005627; cn 3180 tn 8 sn 23), retrying wd0(pciide0:0:0): timeout type: ata c_bcount: 16384 c_skip: 0 [ using 426004 bytes of bsd ELF symbol table ] console out [ATY,Rage128y]console in [keyboard] USB and ADB found, using ADB : memaddr 84000000 size 4000000, : consaddr 84000000, : ioaddr 80920000, size 20000: memtag 8000, iotag 8000: width 1024 linebytes 1024 height 768 depth 8 Copyright (c) 1982, 1986, 1989, 1991, 1993 The Regents of the University of California. The problem may be with the driver where it incorrectly thinks your hardware supports Ultra-DMA. Or it could be a hardware problem. This might happen for example when you connect a UDMA-capable drive using an old 40-pin cable. If you also see these messages after running for a while, it's probably a sign that your disk is dying. |

Then this must be the case. It's an old salvaged machine. I'll replace the disk and see how it runs then. Because what I forgot to mention in the ts was that at some poit it locks up completly concerning disk access. It's pingable but ssh freezes before login. Thanks all for responding.
