Bring the Explorer window to the front and hit command-9. A "Dial4D
Resources" folder will be created next to the structure file.

How to create dialogs?

Hi all,

with until 4D 2004 it was possible, with the shortcut Cmd+9, to export forms as resource files. Now this does not work with v11.

How can i use forms in plugins???

I wrote that answer is yes, yes - the first yes was to your first question.

I believe 4D will work with any extension, but Mac OS uses some extensions as a flag that the folder is a bundle and should be presented and handled as a file-like object, and .bundle is such extension. IT means with extensions .4DX you may see a folder, with extension .bundle you should see a file with 4D icon (if plist is set correctly.) On windows there is no difference, AFAIK.

the extension is insignificant.

its the directory structure that defines a bundle.

Just off my head, yes and yes. You can try it yourself - create a Windows folder in Contents folder, put in windows files and the plugin should work.

Plugin Bundle Structure

I am in a slightly strange position of having to use a plugin being
developed for another company by an outsourced third party. So, I
have no access to the plugin developer. They have a plugin which
works under 2004 as a .4CX file and they're attempting to upgrade it
for v11.

Anyway, I received a beta version of the plugin today and found it is
named Plugin_Name.4DX and it is in the Mac4DX folder of the 4D v11
demo they sent. I ran it with v11 and it seems to work just fine.
However, I'd like to see them use the new plugin architecture with a
bundle placed within the Plugins folder.

If I right-click on the Plugin_Name.4DX, the menu that appears
contains a Show Package Contents item. Choosing it shows the
following structure (which looks like the .bundle plugins I've looked
at):

Contents
Info.plist
MacOS
Plugin_Name
PkgInfo
Resources
Plugin_Name.rsrc

So, I wondered if the Plugin_Name.4DX file was simply misnamed. I
changed the .4DX extension to .bundle and moved it to the Plugins
folder. Lo and behold, it still works when running the demo with v11.

Since I'm not a plugin developer, I have no idea if what I did is
kosher. Does it make sense that they just have the wrong extension?
If not, I'd like to let them know how they can properly change it to
be a .bundle in the Plugins folder.

External areas in v11

We tried to do a 'modern' external area for 4D v11, without QuickDraw and Altura, and run into several problems.

We first tried to put a HIView into external area and react to system events. We tested some system controls - they drawn themselves, but did not responded to clicks, neither the area got mouse events from 4D. Is this supposed to work? On Windows, can plugin install child window over external area and register for system events? we have not tested this on Windows yet, given the experience on Mac it does not seem worth to.

So we do it the standard way, got GC from port and draw into it, but we are a bit nervous as we are not drawing in main thread. AFAIK, drawing is not thread safe and should be done in main thread, could this cause problems? We tried to use Webkit to do drawing of styled text, but Webkit refuses to do anything if it finds out it is not called in the main thread - it just throw an exception. We tried to install system controls into external area - like scrollbars - and they seems to work.

As v12 was demoed, maybe I can have question regarding v12 - 4D v12 will have styled text that will be stored (it seems) as a HTML code. Should external area that is handling texts render the HTML, or will 4D provide entry point where plugin will be able to ask 4D to render HTML for him?

Alternatively you could install the visual-c runtime distribution on the other machines, that’ll install the correct c-runtime dll’s that the plugin tries to load.

Or try switching to ‘release’ build, as most up-to-date computers will have the correct c-runtime, but only the release versions, not the debug versions.

if a pass a PA_Unistring* to PA_SetStringVariable, i see, that 4D is not called but in PA_ClearVariable. Do i have to call PA_ClearVariable if using PA_SetStringVariable?

My code looks like:

Try:

vararray[1]=PA_CreateVariable(eVK_Blob);
vararray[1].fFiller = 0;

See if that helps. I have no idea if it will, it's just a guess. The
field fFiller is not filler at all -- it marks whether a variable has
a fixed type or not.

Problem with PA_ExecuteCommandByID

Hi all,

i want to execute the command "DOM EXPORT TO VAR". I have the following code:

PA_Variable var_result;
PA_Variable vararray[2];

vararray[0]=PA_CreateVariable(eVK_Unistring);
vararray[1]=PA_CreateVariable(eVK_Blob);

PA_SetStringVariable(&vararray[0],this->root_element.GetUnistringPtr()); //The string (16 Byte alpha/num) is correct

var_result=PA_ExecuteCommandByID(863,vararray,2); //DOM EXPORT TO VAR (ElementRef; vXmlVar)

If i now execute "PA_ExecuteCommandByID", in 4D appears the following syntax error:

Error code: 45
Field or variable expected.
component: '4DRT'
component: '4DRT'
task 9, name: 'P_1'

Has anyone an advice???

4D v11.4hf5 v11 API, Mac 10.6.2

Thanks; I don't need that library it just apparently comes along for the
ride with the 10.4sdk so I did remove it.
The plug-in compiles again with the valid architectures set to ppc i386.
The 'Architectures' still lists i386. Double clicking this brings up
the 'Architectures to build for :' dialog listing 32 and 64 bit
checkmarks. I have the 32 bit checkmark checked.

Not sure if it makes a difference but I am on an Intel mac.

The plug-in is still not recognized by 4D.

put it different, you're compiling for example a Universal Binary and
the library you want to link with only contains PowerPC code or only
Intel code (but not both).

Possible solutions:
1. Compile the library yourself for all the needed platforms.
2. Or remove the platform you don't need. If you don't need to support
PowerPC, then you can just remove the architecture from the build
settings.

Achitectures ppc i368
ARCHS = ppc i386

Base SDK Mac OS X 10.4
