Not long ago someone was looking for the 64 bit Hercules source (for Linux) and a response was given but I can not find it in the archives.

Where is it ?

   Are you looking for:

http://www.ivansoftware.com/snapshots/snapshots/

Or do you need some subverted access?

Yes, now I remember reading about this.

This is my first time compiling Hercules, and first time compiling on Ubuntu.

A tutorial on the Ubuntu forum states that the 'tar xzvf' will produce a subdirectory with a ./configure script.

Where is it for Hercules ?

It should be in the same place as a plethora of
README files. Can you do an "ls" after you've
done the extraction?

Looks like I have an executable, not the source.

I downloaded LX64-hercules-SVN-5056-tar.gz

Ok, so go to the original link you were given and
choose "SRC" instead and see how you go.

Thanks - did not know that.

If the file I already have will work without having to do compiles I may as well go forward with it.

How should this be installed on Ubuntu ? I let it unpack into the usr/local/src structure and it doesn't seem right.

Also getting

/hercules: error while loading shared libraries: libherc.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

Which I found on my last go around some time ago on SUSE had to do with the LD_LIBRARY_PATH= statement.

I got out of fixing that problem by finding a .rpm that installed cleanly, but there is not an equivalent for Ubuntu.

Well, I do know that shared libraries are found
via that environment variable, so if you update
your LD_LIBRARY_PATH to include the location of
that .so file, you should get past that particular
error while waiting for someone to tell you the
correct answer.
