86 virago 1100 still poppin

my mech. had adjusted the miture valve twice and both it ran well for a few days then would start poppin when i decl. any ideas..

it sounds to me as if there is some crud floating around in there,,,perhaps a couple of tanks with fuel treatment would help dissolve it,,good luck..yg

Popping is a sign of running lean.

Did you change exhausts, frequently if you put a good low back pressure exhaust on a Virago it will run too lean and lay down and pop.  Cure is a jet kit.

Check that the intakes are sealed correctly.

Make sure all vacuum lines are all on and none are cracked.

the bike has cobra pipes and i installed a dynojet kit..

If the pipes were installed has it ever run correctly without the popping?

Who installed the jet kit?  Has it ever run correctly since the kit was installed?

Was any work done on it just prior to you having the popping problem begin?

Are you getting fuel to the carbs?  Since this is an 1100 you have to worry about a fuel pump which I do not.
Make sure fuel is getting to your primary tank under the seat and that the fuel pump is working and the carbs are getting enough fuel.

Check all the vacuum lines to insure none are loose or off or that none are cracked.

popping on decel is afterburn, what it is, is unburned fuel igniting in the exhaust from the heat, its harmless and more just of an annoyance, i got cobra and dyno jet also and it does the same thing, i had the yamaha tech at school check it out and they said its no big deal, just synced and tuned the carbs and it got better but is still going to do it.
