Title says it all really :)
I defy anyone to be miserable after hearing this!

Stuff used:
Qsynth (GeneralUser GS 1.4) for Flute and Piccolo
Hydrogen (Millo-Drums_V.1) for percussion - except tambourine shake
ZynAddSubFX for everything else
Rosegarden to tie it all together

The percussion track was quantised, but everything else is free-flowing.

Sounds nice and very nicely done, but really not my cup of Earl Grey --
way too upbeat and cheerful sounding :P

And I'm still miserable -- but being a miserable git, I'm always
miserable :D

Hello Will!
Yes it's nice. It reminds me of a fair and the merrygoround, in a quite
antiquated and nostalgic way. It's funny in its own way.
And yes it's nicely done. I don't like the flute sounds, but that's noones
fault. :-) I thik the drums are perfect, they have exactly that something,
that enhances the reminiscing experience. :-)
   Thanks for sharing!
   Friendly regards

A bright sparkly little tune indeed. Nice one, Will.

I think this came up before, but whenever I listen to one of your tunes
I can almost see the accompanying video. I'm not quite sure why, but I
find your music - how can I put it - cinematically suggestive.
Do you write with visual ideas in mind?

I must be perverse. As I listened to this (very fine) tune I kept
thinking about the horror movie "Carnival Of Souls". With a little twist
in another direction the piece would have suited the atmosphere of that
strange and disturbing film.

However, I am completely happy with this music "as is". Nicely done
again, Will, thanks for sharing.

Best,

I'm enjoying this piece and it goes into my collection;).

Reminds me of And The Band Plays On in the movie Hitchcock's Strangers
on a Train and the ending music of Stephen King's It movie
adaption. Both with that eerie feeling that you also captured in this
tune.

It's like tivoli music, but this tivoli you never get home from;).

But if you're a miserable git and that is your normal state then
presumably you would be distressed if that state changed. Therefore you
must be reasonably 'happy' within your own terms of reference,
especially as my tune didn't create a feeling of {ahem} euphoria!

Your move :)

Glad you liked ^H^H^H^H appreciated it anyway.

Thanks a lot Julian. Sometimes I think it's best to try to get close to
'real' flutes, other times I think it's better to stay away. Then again
some people simply don't like them at all :o

Thanks again Garry.

Yes I do usually have an image in my mind when I compose a new song.
Sometimes a little sequence suggests a scene which I then build on
other times it's a scene which sets a mood that the notes will fall
into.

In this case it was a collage of ballroom dance, village fairground and
marching band.

Thanks Dave, although I find it slightly disturbing that you sensed
something not entirely happy in the tune. You're actually one of three
people who have said that, and I can't for the life of me understand how
that should come about.

As I said to Dave, I really don't understand this. However as long as

Uhm, funny stuff.. or so..
It reminds me far too much of what's called "Volksmusik" here.
Especially the bass-like wind instrument tam-ta-ta tam-ta-ta
brrr..
Sure doesn't make me happy :)
But I like hearing diverse stuff, it shows me what's possible with the

Hi Will,

To my ears the form and instrumentation are reminiscent of music for a
carousel or carnival. In my psyche (admittedly influenced by 'way too
many horror and sf books & movies from the 50s and 60s) there's
something inherently surreal or even menacing about such things and
events. Perhaps it's a cultural conditioning ?

Best,

dp

It was definitely early conditioning in my life regarding circus clowns.

As a very sickly infant and young child, I quickly learned to associate circus clowns with intense, physical pain.

The pediatrician had circus clown portraits on the walls of his waiting rooms, hallways, and patient rooms.  Everywhere I went and waited, there were circus clowns.  Then came the treatments and pain, with those circus clowns watching and laughing.

To this day (I'm 56), I don't find anything remotely joyful or comforting about circus clowns.  They were the stuff of nightmares to me.

Amazed and just realizing how much I'm *still* upset with circus clowns,
Stephen.

That makes sense now. I've never been a film goer, and found horror
books a bit of a yawn so I've not had that kind of influence.
