A crash report toolHi
After somebody misused the LG3D bug tracker, I thinked at the way we're trying to understand "crashes" (mostly installation problems). And we're wasting a lot of time saying "Use the latest version", "Send us your lgserver.log file", "What mode are you using", "What Graphic card with which driver" and so on. That's why I've started a "crash" report tool. Currently, it's only a web interface, but I'm planning a python client, that'd find as many information as needed, and send them on the server. Since dev.java.net doesn't accept any "dynamic" language like PHP, I can put my tool only on my website. That'll work, but the URL is rather big, and there are some quotas ! Here is the current version : http://pinaraf.robertlan.eu.org/LG3D/crash_reporter I know, it looks horrible. I know, it's doesn't allow a really good bug tracking. But that's a working prototype, and that may be handy... If I forgot any field in the form, please report it. Re: A crash report toolHi Pierre,
Great tool and idea. I think java.net guys can deliver to lg3d project something like that. It could be special issue tracker or something. Most problem soloves WebStart distribution and we shold make bigger attention for this way to download lg3d Radek --- [Message sent by forum member 'radeczka' (Radek Kierner)] http://www.javadesktop.org/forums/thread.jspa?messageID=128607🙟 --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: interest-unsubscribe@... If it's not there, then it's useless because nobody will use it. I'm going to add a RSS feed for us to be notified about the new reports... --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: interest-unsubscribe@... Re: A crash report toolThe other thing we should do is make our error messages more user friendly. Users obviouslt are not reading or understanding the log messages. Perhaps we should add an error handler that displays a dialog box for all SEVERE level messages.

Re: A crash report toolI ask again : please, can we put a link to this tool on the website ? When somebody reports a crash, he doesn't always give all the needed informations, and that's making "bug" solving harder !

The bug tracker is ... for bugs :) You can't say "LG3D is not starting" in the bug tracker, while my crash report tool is done for such "crashes". --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: interest-unsubscribe@... Re: A crash report toolPierre please do add this to the project web sites, At a minimum I think it should be one of the first things in the getting started guide and also in the trouble shooting section.

Re: A crash report toolHi,
Although crystal reports is good , I recommend RAQ Report to you , and I am sure that it can achieve your purpose easily . After I have used it for half a year , I find that it focuses on Quick Report Development , Easy Report Publish , and Seamless Embedding Deployment for Business Intelligence . At the same time , it is a pure Java reporting tool, which is very simple for learning. And what's more , RAQ Report is a free Java reporting tool, and you can get it at http://www.raqsoft.com/ mike bally Free Java Reporting Tool -- http://www.raqsoft.com/ [Message sent by forum member 'backborn' (backborn)] http://forums.java.net/jive/thread.jspa?messageID=315055 --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: interest-unsubscribe@...
