ACO_4.0_Near_Final_2009_10_14 has been uploaded. Here are the latest changes:

Soundfont:
  • New Zimbelstern, which is a recording of a real Zimbelstern. It now has 5 speeds instead of three.
  • Imperial Trumpet selectable voices were adjusted to that their volume is closer to one another. English Tuba's volume was brought up a little. Millenial Trumpet was brought down a little.
  • A subtle chiff was added to the Great Principal 8. It will add some contrast for the Principal since the English Diapason has almost no chiff.
Dispositions:
  • We now have an ACO "Family" of dispositions. The file names are made to be more descriptive.
  1. ACO_4.0_3P-104 (The main disposition) is again available for both Fluidsynth and Creative Soundblaster.
  2. So is ACO_4.0_2P-31 and...
  3. ...the new ACO_4.0_3P-49 (Schlicker style).
  4. We also welcome into the ACO Family of dispositions ACO 4.0_4P-53_MacMurray College Chapel (Fluidsynth only.) Fluidsynth dispositions have a FS suffix. Creative Soundblaster dispositions have an SB.
  • Each disposition is built to be universal. A Fluidsynth disposition has Creative elements in it, even though they are hidden (and vice-versa). That makes it easy for me to convert from one to the other if I'm modifying or adding a new feature.
  • ACO 4.0 3P-104 and ACO 4.0 3P-49 have the new Zimbelstern and a regulator that access all speeds.
  • The ACO 4.0 3P-104 and the 2P-31 have retained the coupler system for the transposer. Hopefully this will work for those who have real pipes in their system. The 3P-49 has a Switch-Filter transposer (which transposes by stretching the pitches instead of shifting keys).
  • New Sforzando button.
Observations:
  • The "Earlwood Tremulant" doesn't seem to work in the Creative dispositions.
  • The Modulation method for tremulants, used in the Fluidsynth dispositions seems to have the ability to make a more subtle tremulant that the Creative NPRN method.
  • The sounds seem to have a *little* more warmth in the Creative dispsosition. It's a very subtle difference. The high ranks also seem a little brighter. Again, a very subtle difference.
The dispositions were rebuilt/modified using jOrgan 3.7. I haven't played with the 3.8 Betas yet.

Download here.

Have fun.

Paul

Dear Paul,

Thank you for providing us with this great sample. I enjoy playing it daily and I love the new improvements.

I am new in the VPOs world and still trying to find my ways into this fantastic world.

I was wondering if it is possible to add stops and soundfonts to the existing ACO4 list by importing or copying from other samples like Cavaille-coll or English Classic... If this is possible, I apreciate if you could inform me on how this could be done.

In ACO4, is it possible to do Audio Channels distribution? if yes, can I do it if I am using a 5.1 Dolby Surround sound system. I am usind an HP note pad with Vista and I am taking the audio out from the headphone port direct to the amplifier.

Thanking you in advance for your reply.

Best regards

new Thread - Home organ nearing completion but help needed

Hi All,

I am up and running both pipe and digital but i have 2 questions remaining that i can't find answers to in the posts....

1.  How do i get my monitorless, mouseless, remote computer to start up, (power related not starting jorgan etc) on the same circuit that activates my rectifier and blower rather than leaving the computer on all the time?  Basically, is anyone using jorgan in a situation that is 1 switch activated to turn the entire system on?  I simply can't seem to accomplish this.

2.  While i have found a post to use a continuous filter to control tuning....  Have we yet advanced to the point of integrating an auto tracking tuning sensor at this point?

Very interested in hearing from anyone who has experience with either question.

Thanks,

Al

Hi Al,

You have power to it when the blower starts, but you still need
something to push the start button when the blower starts, and push it
again when the blower circuit stops. A relay would do the first, don't
know about the second.

If you are using Graham's setup for jOrgan on Puppy you could just use
the blower circuit to power the computer and when it is shut off the
computer would also be off. Then your starting relay would have to hold
the computer start button until the power supply came up, not that long.

Hope this helps.

On my console, I have mounted two additional switches and an LED beside the the normal console power switch.  The first additional switch is wired to the power switch connections on the computer motherboard in the basement.   The LED is wired to the power LED connections on the computer motherboard.  When I push the button, the computer powers up and the LED comes on, when I push it again, the computer responds by shutting down after stopping all the running processes. The normal power switch powers up the console electronics and the amplifiers in the basement.  The third switch powers up the midi interface.  The third switch allows the midi interface to shut down  before the console electronics so that spurious note or stop on messages don't get sent to the computer.

If I need keyboard and mouse I walk to the basement , but otherwise the console alone suffices as in a normal organ.  Linux provides scripts that allow the power button to cause the computer to enter suspend to RAM or hibernate mode, if that is what you want.  This results in faster power up, since loading several gigabytes of samples into RAM during a normal boot takes minutes.

These scripts could also be modified to send different signals to java if one wanted to have a special shutdown sequence.

I suppose the power up and down sequence could be automated from a single switch if necessary using timers or a small printed circuit board PLC, or perhaps even by special programming of the microcomputer on the MIDI interface to implement a power up/power down state machine.

Re: ACO 4.0 Near Final

Hi Paul,

Would it be possible in a future version of the ACO to add an alternative skin element of the volume slider which is the same width as the voice selection box (trumpets for example)? Using a touch screen with the current version is difficult to get an accurate volume percentage due to the small size of the window. With such an alternative skin element I would place the volume slider under the selection box and move both to the primary monitor view (I'm not suggesting that you move anything, but only indicating how I normally move things around on my set up).

Kind Regards,

Dennis

How about a transparent overlay (similar to the incrementer buttons) that operates a continuous filter?

I think it'll be a while before the next version, but I'll give it some thought.

I revised the ACO's webpage:

and moved all the mp3s and links to Quantum's YouTube videos to a "Listening Room"

The "Listening Room" includes links to other YouTube videos, some featuring Aeolian-Skinner 150AB which was recently restored. (A-S 150AB is the model for my American Classic.)

Have fun!
