Background ------------- Applicant writes: I used a GNU/Linux system for the first time long ago, with Debian Potato 2.2. For the first times, I always dual-booted with a famous proprietary system, and then I abandoned Debian completely. I continued dual-booting with different distributions (RedHat, SuSE), and then had a proprietary-only period. One cold night of December 2004, I completely and definitely switched to Debian GNU/Linux. Since then, I'm only using free software, and try to push it with colleagues, friends and relatives. I'm already maintaining quite a few packages in Debian, I started doing some packaging in 2006, just for playing a bit with it. Then I started getting more and more involved (first in pkg-perl, then in debian-med, now in debian-cli -- even if my team contributions have been slowing down due to lack of time and priority to packages where I'm the only maintainer). I'm volunteering my time because I do believe in free software, and because it's fun :) Now I'm maintaining (among others) some widely used packages: gthumb, bash-completion (for which I'm also upstream), wicd. I'm also interested in the general infrastructure of Debian: I started the now-called "Web Sentinel" for the Debian Pure Blends (specifically, the Debian-Med one, then expanded, improved and totally rewritten by Andreas Tille). Philosophy and Procedures ----------------------------- David has a good understanding of Debian's philosophy and procedures and answered all my questions about the social contract, DFSG, BTS, etc. in a good way. He committed to uphold the SC and DFSG in his Debian work and accepts the DMUP. 4. Tasks and Skills ------------------- David has a good understanding of the technical side of Debian. He is maintainer of a lot of packages, most maintained by him using his DM permissions. He is also upstream of some of his packages. The packages are in good shape. From my own experience I know that David reacts fast on bugs usually and is very responsive on irc. He also answered my other questions regarding T&S without problems and provided patches for RC bugs, contributed to devscripts and did a lot more positive things for Debian 5. Recommendation ----------------- I recommend to accept David Paleino as a Debian Developer. -- Bernd Zeimetz Debian GNU/Linux Developer http://bzed.de http://www.debian.org GPG Fingerprints: 06C8 C9A2 EAAD E37E 5B2C BE93 067A AD04 C93B FF79 ECA1 E3F2 8E11 2432 D485 DD95 EB36 171A 6FF9 435F |

I frequently interacted with David over the past years via the Debian Med mailing list or directly and can second his acceptance. Regards, Steffen |

I haven't reviewed his work for sponsoring, but I have more than once asked him when he was becoming a DD. Finally, this is happening. /Sune -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-newmaint-REQUEST@... with a subject of "unsubscribe". Trouble? Contact listmaster@... |
