ATTENTION: Train from Airport to Roma Termini might cost 11 + 50 EURO!Hi,
I just fell into a annoying pitfall while I was travelling from Fumicino Airport to Roma Termini. I bought the train ticket at a little office near the platform and then I just went to train and entered it. There's no gate to access the platform but later in the train the conductor informed me that there was a tiny box somewhere, which I had to find to stamp the ticket. I was not aware of this, hence I was charged a 50 Euro fine. The woman at the ticket office also gave me no hint, one just have to read the back of the ticket, which I didn't do after 20 hours travel from Beijing. For me this is almost a scandal, as the conductor already had several handwritten invoices for the fine prepared in advance, hence this seems to happen frequently. SO! BE AWARE! As I want to complain about this, I would also be interested if this happened to someone else. Our Italian friends I would like to ask, if you know where to complain about this, the conductor didn't gave any information. Best regards, Peter --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: conference-unsubscribe@... For additional commands, e-mail: conference-help@... |

Yes, in Italy it's mandatory to stamp your ticket (not only the airport ticket; this holds for almost all train tickets!) in the machines. There are yellow machines ("obliteratrici") at the stations and you are indeed fined if you forget to stamp your ticket. While some tickets do not need validation, I recommend that you stay on the safe side and validate all tickets, even when it is optional to do it. > Our Italian friends I would like to ask, if you know where to complain > about this, the conductor didn't gave any information. On trenitalia.com you can file a complaint that will be addressed within 30 days. However, since the rule is written on the back and front of all tickets (often in English too) it's quite hard that they admit they did something wrong in your case. Unfortunately, filing a complaint often requires that you send the original ticket at some point in the process, so if your company is reimbursing it and you need to give the original to your company this is yet another obstacle. Re: ATTENTION: Train from Airport to Roma Termini might cost 11 + 50 EURO!Fortunately I validated the ticket, but nobody asked me for it once
inside the train. I might look as a native Italian and they only do that to tourists :P 2009/11/2 Peter Junge <peter.junge@...>: > Hi, > > I just fell into a annoying pitfall while I was travelling from Fumicino > Airport to Roma Termini. Hash: SHA1 Hi Peter, I'm really really sorry about that. We really forgot to remind you to stamp the ticket because it's a way in use since 20 years. That's reminds me of Lyon - where you're supposed to put the ticket into the machine whenever you change the busline/metro.. Contrary to e.g. Munich where you stamp the ticket only once... Little differences that are obvious for the organizers, but can cause quite a headache for tourists. There really should be "public transportation for dummies" on the conference pages (When standing in front of the ticket machine I tried to use it as a touchscreen, like I've come accustomed to with many ATMs until I realized that scroll-thingie :-) Preferably with a small overview regarding the different ticket options (single trip vs day ticket vs group tickets,...) ciao Christian (who unfortunately cannot attend this year :-(() --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: conference-unsubscribe@...
