Add new release event or not

Hello

I bought this release http://musicbrainz.org/release/6af6cc90-9bbe-4093-9155-8d2ef8aaa4ff.html on eBay. I don't know if this is a re-release or an original. The label is the same but the CD booklet seems perfectly new, unbelievably so for a CD which would be 10 years old! So should I enter this CD as a new release event with unknown release date or should I fill the existing release event with my catalog number and barcode?

I would add a new release event unless you have reason to believe it
wasn't actually released in 1999.  The release's edit history shows
there were a number of URLs used as references.

Ok, I wasn't clear enough. I am not saying the current release event is wrong. I didn't mean to delete the current release event. The year seems right at least. But I could enter my catalogue number and barcode in the current release event, while keeping the current release event date. What I am saying is that when the release was first released in 1999, it may very well have been released under another catalogue number or another barcode. So that entering my catalogue number and barcode in the current release event would be wrong.

Hmm, I'm not sure I am getting any more clear ;-)

Ok, I'll enter a new undated release event.

You said your release appears to be much newer than something that was
released in 1999 and so I guess there is no date on the packaging.
You could try looking up the barcode to see if any online stores
mention a release date for your version.

Still would go with a separate release event until you know for sure
that your version is the same as the existing release event.

just because a cd is first released in 1999, doesn't mean that all
copies were *made* in 1999. most releases on CD - especially those on
major labels - will be repressed many times until they simply stop
selling (or the label reissues, or another label takes over, etc).
it's not till you start looking at the CD matrix codes that you notice
the very subtle changes between such represses, if there are any at
all.

even discogs doesn't really deal with these kinds of represses, and
unless you know for sure that there is a label or cat# difference, MBz
wouldn't either. IMO don't add it as a separate event.

(P) and (C) 1999, that's all. No printing date. Second hand, so no wrapping with a sticker which could help. I bought a second second hand CD from the same seller, from 1995, and this CD is in much worse shape, the booklet has obsiously been manipulated, the paper has gone yellow near the borders and so on.

BUT I found this http://www.chapitre.com/CHAPITRE/fr/MUSIC/trio-esperanca/nosso-mundo,371866.aspx , where the "Détails" field contains my barcode.  So I guess we can consider that this an original release :-) I am going to edit my edits.

Don't be fooled by how new releases look. I recently bought a second
hand vinyl release from 1976 which looks brand new ;)
