Yes there is,

There is a module manager where it is easy to add fields.

Subject: [Vtigercrm-developers] Adding custom fields to a module

Having previously been playing with Sugar, I'm quite excited what vtiger appears to offer. Before I jump in at the deep end with my customizations, I wanted to check that there isn't a GUI way of adding new fields to an existing module (as you can with Sugar), but that we currently have to resort to SQL insert queries?

Thanks.

Actually, I think I've found it now, it's not so obvious as it is with Sugar. It looks as though the only way to do it is via adding a field in the Layout Editor, rather than there being a separate 'Custom Field Management' page. And my options to edit that field once added seem to be more limited, but I suppose that makes sense.
