Tart, as Paul suggested at the meeting yesterday, is going in the right direction but for me not there yet. I added an S to get Start (Science, Technology, Art) but that doesn't quite do for me either. The combinations are good but the acronym is not strong enough.  Does anyone have any ideas for acronyms using art, science and technology

I honestly can't remember how it came up, but at the art meeting
yesterday, Orlando said something about you having expressed some
interest in trying to keep the International Electro-Acoustic Music
festival going somehow.  That's something that's been on my mind.  Are
you interested in trying to do something about it?

I haven't been able to make the art meetings due to work and music rehearsal schedules, but I would be very much interested in keeping the Electro Acoustic Fest alive as well....particularly in light of the fact that it is not yet determined when the new CSF will reinvigorate a Contemporary Music Program....so the Complex taking the reigns on this may not only preserve a great cultural happening, but inspire the College to get the music dept. back up and running.

We used at V2 Institute from the Unstable Media (www.v2.nl) for our Lab activities:

aRt&D

in analogy to the more technical Research and Development (R&D), but then in context of the arts...
Perhaps something along this notion?!

Paul, In my opinion, SMART is going more in the right direction. Is media a good substitute for technology? O

Re: Santa Fe International Electroacoustic Music Festival

I am still interested in "SFIFEM" and this is the point where I have arrived with it. Based upon a conversation with Steve Paxton several months ago, it seems like $5000 -
$8000 is a good target budget for the project. That includes a a visiting keynote composer, call for works and presentations, PR and advertising, infrastructure and equipment rental, etc. Some of the expenses could be met by a conference fee of, say, $75.  We could project a turnout of 50 to 100 composers and other participants. If we had an excess over the $5000 grant money plus the participation fee, it could be retained as seed money for the following year's conference, enabling us to start early on promotion.

All that said, there needs to be a gathering of interested people, a more clear definition  of the project and an effort apply for $5000 grant money.

I honestly can't remember how it came up, but at the art meeting yesterday, Orlando said something about you having expressed some interest in trying to keep the International Electro-Acoustic Music festival going somehow.  That's something that's been on my mind.  Are you interested in trying to do something about it?
