Administer OrganizationI created a group who's permission scheme allows them to "Administer Organization". For users with this group, they are not able to administer the organization.
Prior to the final release of JIRA 4, the Administration's tab with only the Organization section appearing in the left menu. Is this feature no longer available? How can we create a role to only administer 1 organization? -- Post by velazquez_salvador@... - online at: http://forums.atlassian.com/thread.jspa?forumID=46&threadID=38437 _______________________________________________ Jira-user mailing list Jira-user@... Re: Administer OrganizationSorry, this is probably just a language thing, but what is an "organisation"? Do you mean a Jira Project? Or the system? Or do you have a plugin that is adding something else?

Re: Administer OrganizationYes, my fault. We changed the wording from Projects to Organizations. So I created a group named "org-admin". Then created a organizational role named "Org Admin" and set org-admin as the default group. Then in Permission Scheme, for the Default Scheme I added permissions for that group to Administer Organization. Again we customized so that instead of displaying Projects, we display Organizations (customer request). Lastly i created a user and assigned it the "org-admin" role.
The problem is that the Administration tab does not appear. -- Post by velazquez_salvador@... - online at: http://forums.atlassian.com/thread.jspa?forumID=46&threadID=38437 _______________________________________________ Jira-user mailing list Jira-user@... Re: Administer OrganizationThis won't give them the ability to use the administration tab. It gives them a link when browsing projects that says "Administer Project" or in your case "Administer Organization" which will take them to the project administration screen.

Re: Administer OrganizationAs Matt points out, there is a distinct difference between the types of administrators you can have in Jira. The "Admin" option appears on the main bar if you have any form of admin rights, but what it does varies by your permissions. I assume this is what you mean by "Admin Tab"?
>From reading your post, I think you've done almost everything correctly, but can you confirm that your project/organisation is using the Default permission scheme, and not another one? If it helps, I think of Admin rights in four layers: # User - no admin rights at all, will not see the Admin option # Project / Organisation - can administer the project(s) that they have rights to. This should kick in for your users in the "Org Admin" group. It gives them the right to amend users roles, components and versions. # Administrator - can do most admin activities # System administrator - can do all admin activities There is a huge difference between admins at level 2 and 3. The differences between 3 and 4 are listed [here|http://confluence.atlassian.com/display/JIRA/Managing+Global+Permissions] -- Post by broughn2 - online at: http://forums.atlassian.com/thread.jspa?forumID=46&threadID=38437 _______________________________________________ Jira-user mailing list Jira-user@... Re: Administer OrganizationThanks. The problem was that i was assigning groups via the Organization Role Browser instead of clicking on the Project or in my case "Organization", then the View Memebers link. After assigning the groups to the roles here everything worked fine.

Re: Administer Organizationas my previous post said, i set the mapping of groups to roles in the wrong spot. Needed to do the mapping for each project not in the project role browser.
