Advancing Effects in a Slideshow

Hello.

I'm trying to control effects in a slide show.  I have tried using the gotoNextEffect( ) function of the XSlideShowController interface to advance to the next effect on a slide.  I have also tried using the nextEffect( ) function of the XSlideShow interface.  Both of these fail in a running slideshow.  I see that both of these interfaces are marked as unpublished.  Does that also imply that the functionality may be incomplete, or is it possible that this is just a bug?

I did try looping through the shapes on the slide and calling the startShapeActivity for those having the "effect" property set, but that did nothing as well.

Can someone verify that I am using these interfaces the way they are intended?  Is there missing/broken functionality in these unpublished interfaces (I didn't see anything in the issue tracker)?  Are there any other ideas on how to advance and effect on a slide?

Thanks for any help.
