> Many GAME CDs (xbox, playstation, etc) are black, these are just made to
immitate those because some people like them.

I see. Maybe that´s why they strike me as so strange, being a non-gamer
I´ve never seen any game CDs.

> Those "black" CDs are actually very dark purple in color
I´ll get the sunscreen ready.

> All I know is many of them don't play on my cd player!

This is what I have also found. Which is why I wondered if maybe it was a

Some instruments were used (a crackle box and a sruti box), some composition techniques were also used (for example, minimalism and time stretching) as well as some software (iphone) and voice.
(amb) Soundscapes Concert Series Returns

In 2002 and 2003, the Soundscapes Concert Series presented vidnaObmana,
Orbital Decay, The Ministry of Inside Things, and Tom Shaw in concert.
The cost of doing shows at the venue then priced Soundscapes out of
business.

I am pleased to announce that a new venue has finally been located that
will allow the Soundscapes Concert Series to be resurrected. On
Saturday, April 24, 2010, the first new show in seven years will be
presented.

Twyndyllyngs and Technicolor Travel Agency will perform starting at 8:00
pm. The doors open at 7:30 pm. There is a suggested donation of $10 to
help the musicians, venue, and promoter to defray their costs.

Information about the bands and the concert series may be found at:
http://soundscapes.us

Meanwhile, you can become friends with the Soundscapes Concert Series at
these social networks:
http://myspace.com/soundscapesconcertseries
http://facebook.com/soundscapesconcerts

I look forward to seeing you at a concert in the near future.

Cheers,

disused windmill, ghost echoes. Those are some sounds that constitute the
atmosphere of The Silent Watcher. Presented in their raw form or heavily
processed, they all relate to old memories, often blurred and incomplete; the
aural equivalent of a faded polaroid. From field recordings, layers are created,
manipulated, taken apart and rebuilt and soon begin to tell a story - a story
often buried under droney textures and fragmented melodies and only partially
revealed, but more often distorted and reconstructed.

period of two years, a time period in which the process has slowly taken shape

Certainly Nacreous Clouds is intriguing, though I found it a bit dry and untreated; quite a bold (post-)production decision to have sounds so unadorned, and probably intentional, seeking effect through no effect, if you will (if you can be arsed, see mini-review in this Celer profile in which dismay was expressed at the almost transgressive absence of reverb - the ambient equivalent of being naked in church?).
> We issued two of their recordings in 2008 :
>
> The Everything and the Nothing CD
> Discourses of the Withered CD (oop at the moment, some retailers
> still have some - a repress is
> planned for later this year).
>
> And we have a few of their other discs stocked "Brittle", "Close
> Proximity and the unhindered care-all", "pockets
> of wheat", "mane blooms" (7"), "Capri", "mesoscaphe" & "pockets of
> wheat".
>
> It's really difficult to go wrong w/ any of their titles. They
> were extremely prolific in the short time they
> were recording together - and consistently recording at such a
> compelling level. Their homemade
> CDr's evaporated almost immediately upon issue, and are extremely
> hard to find now. The other various
> labels that have issued Celer discs have done modest pressings -
> around 500 copies or so - and those
> seem to go quickly as well. I know there are probably another
> half dozen Celer titles coming out in the
> next year or so (we're planning 2 at the moment as well).
>
> Their sound - which if you have not heard it - is like a symphony
> of layered loops. And the loops are not
> usually recognizable. They've shied largely away from synths or
> guitar and used their own recordings of violins, viola,
> cello, glockenspiel, environmental recordings, theremin (!), piano
> and other sounds as the basis. The loops were
> constructed from spliced tape in lengths from a few seconds to
> several minutes, and then layered. Sounds
> that are created are very unique and difficult to classify. Some
> have referenced Basinski, d/t the loop basis, but IMO his
> sound is a bit more minimalist and doesn't posses the depth that
> Celer has created.
> Same here, I was also unaware of them. I've got two albums so far,
> 'Engaged Touches' and 'In Escaping Lakes'. Can anyone recommend
> more of their music?
> Seconded....
>
> I was unaware of them as well until Dani's sad passing....and now
> am completely immersed in their music....which has a highly
> addictive quality to it. Indeed, beautiful.
> Thank you, Dave, for bringing this up, and of course to the list!

:

The Everything and the Nothing CD
Discourses of the Withered CD (oop at the moment, some retailers still have some - a repress is
planned for later this year).

And we have a few of their other discs stocked "Brittle", "Close Proximity and the unhindered care-all", "pockets
of wheat", "mane blooms" (7"), "Capri", "mesoscaphe" & "pockets of wheat".

It's really difficult to go wrong w/ any of their titles. They were extremely prolific in the short time they
were recording together - and consistently recording at such a compelling level. Their homemade
CDr's evaporated almost immediately upon issue, and are extremely hard to find now. The other various
labels that have issued Celer discs have done modest pressings - around 500 copies or so - and those
seem to go quickly as well. I know there are probably another half dozen Celer titles coming out in the
next year or so (we're planning 2 at the moment as well).

Their sound - which if you have not heard it - is like a symphony of layered loops. And the loops are not
usually recognizable. They've shied largely away from synths or guitar and used their own recordings of violins, viola,
cello, glockenspiel, environmental recordings, theremin (!), piano and other sounds as the basis. The loops were
constructed from spliced tape in lengths from a few seconds to several minutes, and then layered. Sounds
that are created are very unique and difficult to classify. Some have referenced Basinski, d/t the loop basis, but IMO his
sound is a bit more minimalist and doesn't posses the depth that Celer has created.
