I haven't heard this one, but I've liked other Stray Ghost albums. Phantom Channel has a freely available EP, A House of Gold and Oak, and I included their album Losthilde as one of my top albums of 2008. I look forward to checking out Nothing, But Death (the album).

Interestingly, it didn´t strike a chord with me at all on first listen,
but something made me keep thinking about it and go back to it and now I´m
utterly convinced.

I see. Maybe that´s why they strike me as so strange, being a non-gamer
I´ve never seen any game CDs.

I looked up Memorex Black CD-R discs on Best Buy. Under product features it
is written: "Black discs for greater U.V. protection." It makes me think
that maybe I should be putting sunscreen on my non-black CD-Rs? I'm just
kidding of course..... ;-)

“Bright dawn sketches” is an ambient album focused on exploring different environments, from urban solitude, sirens crying, ocean waves crashing in the shores and sunbeams reflected in the clouds. Some instruments were used (a crackle box and a sruti box), some composition techniques were also used (for example, minimalism and time stretching) as well as some software (iphone) and voice. All the tracks contained in this release were made with some concepts in mind.

Those "black" CDs are actually very dark purple in color, as a totally
black CD wouldn't actually be readable due to not reflecting any light... :)

In 2002 and 2003, the Soundscapes Concert Series presented vidnaObmana,
Orbital Decay, The Ministry of Inside Things, and Tom Shaw in concert.
The cost of doing shows at the venue then priced Soundscapes out of
business.

I am pleased to announce that a new venue has finally been located that
will allow the Soundscapes Concert Series to be resurrected. On
Saturday, April 24, 2010, the first new show in seven years will be
presented.

Twyndyllyngs and Technicolor Travel Agency will perform starting at 8:00
pm. The doors open at 7:30 pm. There is a suggested donation of $10 to
help the musicians, venue, and promoter to defray their costs.

apparently Gino Fioravanti and Gianluigi Toso (aglaia) have recorded a ton of material that's been hovering under the radar. recently i noticed a bunch of stuff on emusic when i was looking to see if the new aglaia albums might be there. instead, i found a (misspelled) listing with their names and 3 aglaia albums previously released on HSL.

the albums won't really sound different than the previous ones they've released (similar sounds/themes/ideas), but there is indeed a lot of good material. i really enjoy their sound, so......

THE SILENT WATCHER

Tools manipulated in an old workshop, clocks slowed down, the spinning wheel of a rusty bike, children playing near a church, the sound of the wind in Norfolk, climbing up the stairs in a disused windmill, ghost echoes. Those are some sounds that constitute the atmosphere of The Silent Watcher. Presented in their raw form or heavily processed, they all relate to old memories, often blurred and incomplete; the aural equivalent of a faded polaroid. From field recordings, layers are created, manipulated, taken apart and rebuilt and soon begin to tell a story - a story often buried under droney textures and fragmented melodies and only partially revealed, but more often distorted and reconstructed.

This album has been made over a period of two years, a time period in which the process has slowly taken shape and mutated, often leading to beautiful accidents and unexpected results patiently collated and recycled. It is also the story of a work in progress and a craft being learned, where many compositional methods have been explored.

Certainly Nacreous Clouds is intriguing, though I found it a bit dry and untreated; quite a bold (post-)production decision to have sounds so unadorned, and probably intentional, seeking effect through no effect, if you will (if you can be arsed, see mini-review in this Celer profile in which dismay was expressed at the almost transgressive absence of reverb - the ambient equivalent of being naked in church?).

I think I still like The Everything and the Nothing best (verbiage over 'ere, for anyone who gives a monkey's).
