CS-80 owners - how often do you calibrate?

I've got first refusal at a CS-80. What a lovely sentence :)

Like any sane person I'm giving it serious consideration. I'm undecided on
two issues - tuning and reliability. I'm not a DIYer and I don't know a tech
who makes house calls, so if it's just going to turn into an expensive 3
voice honky-tonk within a matter of months it's probably not for me.

Reading reports on the web yields the usual extremes, people whose CS80s go
out of tune if their cat breathes within 20 feet of it or people who've
never had the slightest problem despite keeping it in their sauna.

So, owners/users only please, I'd really appreciate replies to these three
questions -

How often does your 80 require the full retuning calibration?
Do you do this yourself or do you use a tech for tuning?
How often has it required repairing while you've owned it?

Cheers,
Matt
open the synth up, make sure all the connectors are still firmly in place,
make sure the IC's are all sitting snug in their sockets (press down on them
to make sure), and to generally see if anything looks broken or damaged. I'd
also do a scan to make sure no traces got broken, you could even do this

I've got a korg monopoly which very unfortunately fell from a really
crappy keyboard stand.

Since the fall it began to exhibit problems. The filter gets very
jumpy. This is without me touching the knobs. The filter just jumps
over the place from time to time. When it jumps it's almost as if I
have a s&h lfo on it.

It's really annoying since I just bought it from a friend of mine.
AFAIK it didn't have this problem before falling.

Could anyon please direct me to atleast areas where u should
troubleshoot. Where I am analogue synths are rare and not many techs
can fix them. The one I'm going to go to is fully booked until next
month. In anycase it'd be great to have some pointers as to what me
and the tech should be looking at.

Thanks a lot :) I really love my monopoly the sound with just a single

The user manual is available on www.rolandus.com. You'll have to register for a password, but it is free AFAIK.

http://backstage.rolandus.com/product_manuals/

>
> You will only have to find a user manual now. ;-)
>
> If anyone has pdf's or know where on
> the web I can
> >find these it would be soooo appreciated.
intro on hot chocolates 1980 hit no doubt about it.
It still sends shivers down my spine, but i would to know if anyone
Its from 1980,so it rules quite a number of synth right out.

The first Music Machines synth and drum machine event was held yesterday in
Auckland and I just wanted to post the first photo stream from the day.
I'll post some video as soon as we've all recovered from the day but this
will give you a good idea of the kit we had in the building. Nearly all of
the kit was operational for the public to play with, except the huge drum
machine collection which was display only, the sound in the room was
amazing, especially at the end when we led a techno jam with everybody in
the room trying to join in!
The event would never have happened without the help of all the collectors
and enthusiasts, Auckland really came out to help and we'll be doing it
again next year.

Hi all,

I have a Moog Source I just don't have room for due to moving my studio to get ready for a baby in the house. I'd hate for it to sit unused. It's not mint, or even new looking. I bought it broken and fixed it. I fixed the whole sound board, repaired the digital board, put in new battery, cleaned all connections on the board ribbon cables and basically took it from broken to working again. All functions work. It has the typical difficulty of old Moog's staying tuned. This is not too evident, but is so when trying to use both VCO's at once since they both drift at once.

The case is decent, but has some scratches and a dent by the rear volume potentiometer. The large encoder knob is not original and I put a MOTM knob on there. The wood part of the case came apart when I got it, but can be reassembled when you get it with some hot glue or epoxy. I have all the parts of it.

That's the truth of it. Don't want to sugar coat the condition. HOWEVER, things could be *much* worse and the sound is Moog through and through. Warm, fat bass, searing leads, built in arpeggiator and sequencer work, all buttons work and all touch surface work. It makes me understand the comments about old Moogs versus new ones. The touch surface connects to the circuit boards via a ribbon cable so cleaning is possible if things get sluggish. The sound engine is, well... "sound". I replaced all op amps and IC's on the sound board and almost all on the digital board including the Z80 digital brain. If you are interested and want pictures please email directly. We can talk business. Thanks!
Hello Chris,

If the Matrix is like most synths that can switch voltages, there are two different ways to wire the transformer -- one for 110 and one for 240. Here's a picture of what I'm talking about: http://myweb.tiscali.co.uk/nuukspot/decdun/gc/trafo%20wiring.jpg

Basically you're changing the number of turns on the input side of the transformer core by using a different lead.

Some of the Minimoog Model D's actually had both circuits wired up, with a switch so you could flip back and forth.

So, your best bet is to figure out the part number of the internal transformer and see if you can find a wiring diagram on it online. If I were you, I'd take it out of the Matrix, wire it up as you think it should be, and check the outputs with a voltmeter before installing it back in the Matrix (just so you don't short something out if you've got it wired wrong).

Hope that helps,

Joe R.
> Subject: [AH] Oberheim Matrix 6R Powersupply conversion ?
>
> I have an oberheim matrix 6r but it runs on 110 volts, i use a step down
> transformer as im in the UK
> running at 240v mains.
>
> Now here is the big question.
> inside the Matrix 6 the transformer is clearly printed 110 to 240
> plus there is a little ciircuit board which takes the mains voltage through
> a slow blow fuse
> before it hits the transformer and mother board,
>
> on that little board there are markings for for a 110v unit or 240V unit
> so i was hoping to re route the little sub board
> thus bypassing the need for a step down transformer, but i could do with
> some
> help as to how to achieve this as there is little info availble about it.
> I reckon someone on here knows about this and would know what i need to do.
> i have a pretty good idea how to do it, but i could just do with a bit of
> backup
> before i go forth !
>
> Any help would be appreciated.
>
> Thanks
