Announcing CiviCRM Standalone demo server

One of the more exciting new features in the upcoming 2.0 release of CiviCRM is the ability to use it with any CMS (or no CMS at all). What this means is that CiviCRM runs all by itself without a Drupal or Joomla installation. This feature is referred to as "standalone," and now you can try it out!

The new standalone demo server is live at:

http://standalone.demo.civicrm.org/

You'll need an OpenID to login, but those are easy to get. If you're on AOL/AIM, you already have one: openid.aol.com/youraimusername   You can also get one from myopenid.com.

The standalone feature was primarily developed last summer by the Code for Change team which I directed. We're very excited to see this and other features we developed going into CiviCRM 2.0.

For those who are curious, the impetus for building the standalone feature was to allow people who aren't going to, can't, or won't use Drupal or Joomla to still take advantage of CiviCRM for their organization's CRM needs. This will hopefully grow CiviCRM's installation base as it matures.

If you find any bugs (which you probably will), please report them against CiviCRM 2.0 in Jira.

a big shout-out to Wes (and the folks at US PIRG) for his help to get this in the code base and push it along. Please help push this along by testing the features on the demo server.

That's great news indeed !

Are the modification already in the svn ?

I tried to run the 2.0 from the svn in standalone and it did fail in the setup. Is this "normal" (if I understood properly, standalone was not supported in 1.9).

Are they docs about this install ?

(my goal is to be able to test civicrm 2 while keeping a 1.9 working and without having to reinstall yet another drupal)

X+

The standalone demo is running on the latest revision of the v2.0 branch from svn. So yes, you should be able to check that out and get a working (but not release-quality, yet) standalone installation up and running.

The standalone install process is pretty new and rough around the edges, so bug reports, feedback, and especially patches are all most welcome.

Thanks for trying it out!

Wes
