Another comment for LZ4Linux forum pollHi there,
First of all, I want to say how grateful I am for such a great product as LightZone. I'm just learning how to get the most out of it, but so far, I find it fantastic. I tried to register on the forums but for some reason, registration has been disabled. Nevertheless, I wanted to add my vote to the "LightZone for Linux" poll that has been posted there. I am extremely interested in LZ4Linux 3! If it is made available, I will definitely download it! I sincerely hope that it is. I think that Lightcrafts has been extremely generous in giving the LightZone to the Linux community for free and it's something that I appreciate very much. I think it's great that they are a software company that doesn't overlook Linux users, which happens so often. However, I also think that the understand some of the "nuances" of the Linux community. I generally find that Linux users don't typically pay for commercial software, yet they are very often willing to donate to a project that they hold in high esteem. I also find that are much more likely to contribute to the software's development (beta testing, bug reporting, troubleshooting for new users, etc) than perhaps is found with users of other OS's. So the decision to give the Linux version of LightZone away and encourage donations I think shows a real understanding of their market and their users. Personally, while I'm not opposed to paying for commercial software, I typically look for free alternatives. If there is nothing similar available from the opensource community or as freeware, I will look at paid options. However, my "disposible income" for items such as software is extremely limited. I would guess many people would find themselves in a similar position. I would love to see version 3 of LightZone be made available for Linux. I will absolutely use it and will promote to others both online and in person (and most of those use Windows or Mac). I also will donate funds to the project as I am able. Sorry if this is too long, I just wanted to offer my perspective. I look forward to seeing the direction that LZ4Linux moves forward and hope that Lightcrafts continue their support of the Linux community. Thanks for taking the time to read this. And I promoted Lightzone in Communities with 3000 Opinion Leaders of very different target groups (journalism, Public Relations etc). So wanting to keep LightZone free doesn't mean giving nothing to Lightcraft or the product. It's a real win-win betwenn Lightcraft and the Linux-Community.
