Another serious problem in 5.11While attempting to build for release I noticed that I had made a
complete horlick of gen32 rendering it plain wrong. I have fixed and this has forced me to retag yet again. Many apologies, but this one cold have been a real pain. This release is looking like the hardest to get together ever! My computer broke, Sourceforge have radically changed the release mechanism.... I am still missing some information for release notes 1: New Opcodes: doppler -- details to follow 2: I think that Victor had a new opcode that I do not have recorded and I do not know that it has documentation The notes I prepared at on the broken computer so I my be out of date; will have to recover from the backup this morning. ==John ffitch ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Come build with us! releaseThe new SF release interface is confusing. Where do release notes go? I have uploaded the OSX 10.5 package, will work now on OSX 10.4. Is this release live already? Re: releaseI will upload the Windows installers after I have selected which
configuration (float or double) I will support. This will take some performance timing and ABX listening tests. I am writing one orchestra to do both tests, I should be able to do this today or tomorrow. I will continue to maintain our ability to build both configurations on Windows, but I will not package and release both configurations. As far as I can tell there is no Hidden/Visible optionm, so as soon as the file it there it can be seen which is a step backwards. No mail to watchers either. Release notes are a file that is then tagged as release notes -- will do that soon. Re: re leaseMichael,
I have downloaded and tested your installer on an Windows XP Laptop here. I am happy to see that it is much simpler to do and that, once installed, I was able to launch QuteCsound and run one of the examples from the examples menu - and render a file. WOW.. What an improvement. This is a huge step forward for Windows Users. Thanks so much for all your work on this. I would like to make some suggestions and a request. Particularly regarding the beginner and first time user experience (which I think we need to keep in focus with our "installers") - I would like Windows-based developers and teachers on the developers list to weigh in as well. It would be incredible if we could make sure that the Windows Installer featured the same collection of basic items at the Mac Installer (and that both strove to make things as simple as possible to install a get up and running. Customization and alternative versions should be available and supported, but should be more for advanced beginners and supported on our personal websites, cSounds.com, and other : Speaking as a beginner now, I want to check out and install "Csound" So... Please Michael - you are so close.... I would like to request that just as Victor is now doing on the Mac (and as he can confirm what he is installing) 1. Do a full install and don't ask me too many questions about choices. - in the install process, you ask if I want to install utilities? (the beginner asks - what's this?) - in the install process, you ask me to check if I want to install frontEnds? (wthe beginner asks - what are these? do I need them? I want Csound) (in the mac world, if you want to install extras or install less, there is usually a custom button for that - you sort of have this but...) 2. You say this is a big download (and it is not - not really - maybe with less frontEnds it might not be so big?) - in fact, I would like you to add more examples (as I sent to you and as I will outline below) - In the Mac Install, Victor now includes 3 compositions - trapped, xanadu, and homage - In the Mac Install, Victor now includes a huge "Examples" folder of: -- the items I prepared and tested for the OLPC system (including MANY MIDI models, Cool Instruments and COMPOSITIONS!) -- selections from The Csound Catalog (v2 and the upcoming v3) (Including some of my favorite UDO and DSP models) -- my TOOTS (and the .pdf) -- my Csound Book Chapter 1 (and the .pdf) -- Of course - you should add your tutorial to this collection (in the tutorials folder) -- Of course - you should add some of your compositions (in the compositions folder) ++ Victor should add YOUR extra examples, tutorials and music to the Mac Installer! Michael - I shared the link with you a week ago.... and I asked you to include these... they all work with QuteCsound - and they are meant to both answer questions and inspire - and they do!] (No longer will experts like Jim Aikin email us about how to do this or that - these examples contain the answers to most of his questions - and those of all my students.) (This extra stuff might be too much for Michael's website, but it is not too much for SourceForge and it will make a huge difference with getting people started.) For all the developers, here is the link to the examples directory files now included by Victor in the MacInstaller and that I think should be included in all the basic installers. In the examples folder, Victor calls this folder - a little something from Dr. B. - check it out: (Michael - you could add a folder to the examples folder - A little Something from Michael Gogins) 3. You install all the frontEnds - they are confusing and many have not been supported for a long long time. - why would a beginner want to try ALL these front-ends (especially since NONE of them come with any .csds!)- 4. Victor just provides the ONE frontEnd that is being maintained and developed currently - QuteCsound - examples are there in the app - it's cross platform - the manual is linked (we don't need to ditch the others, but we don't need them ALL to show up in the folder and confuse beginners) 5. There is a need for a README file - to explain a few issues - like how to get MIDI to work - Victor now includes a simple file that tells you what's in the folder and how to use the Configure Tab in QuteCsound to set up your MIDI controllers - here is what VICTOR says in the readme: To start, install csound5 by double clicking on its icon. Then drag QuteCsound into your applications folder. Finally, you will be able to check out some of the examples in the examples folder. You will find lots of goodies there. A few quick notes: 1. Qutecsound also has an examples menu showing some of its features 2. To use realtime MIDI from Qutecsound - need to select your midi device from the Configure Icon in the app and set it in the realtime play section of the Configure Dialog. 3. To use MIDI with QuteCsound and a Commercial Sequencer (such as Logic Pro) - need to turn on apple's IAC and create a bus or use MIDIpipe and then adjust setting in the Configure Dialog It would be great if you would add these items, simply the launcher further (go with doubles by the way) and see what the feedback is from Students, User, and Others.... Then - over the next few months - we can refine the collection and the presentation - and possibly have a Launcher for EXPERTS/DEVELOPERS - with a LADSPA, Python, JAVA and API focus? Respectfully submitted to all developers. Richard Boulanger Dr. Richard Boulanger - rboulanger@... On Sep 27, 2009, at 2:56 PM, Michael Gogins wrote:

Re: csound.sf.net pageI uploaded the new http://csound.sourceforge.net index.html and faq.html I've been working on. There are only a few issues I wasn't able to resolve: - The Windows, OpenSUSE, and Mac OS X download sections need updated links to 5.11 installers (I'm not sure which installer goes with each link) - The Csound Wiki link is dead (maybe it moved?) Other than that it should be good to go but proof-reading and link-checking would be appreciated.
