RE: Any hosting companies offering CF8 on Linux?According to Adobe, Linux ran slightly slower in response time than did it's
windows counterpart. http://www.adobe.com/products/coldfusion/whitepapers/pdf/6_1/cfmx61_performa ncebrief.pdf We've found that to be the case as well with internal testing. We haven't tested CF 8 yet however to see if this holds true. We used to be exclusively a Linux shop until we discovered the support from Macromedia was SO MUCH better if you were using Windows. So we switched. Haven't had a single stability or performance issue. We have a client (http://www.wilton.com) that has 6 of their properties on a single machine, running MX7 using windows 2003 Standard and we rarely have to do anything but rotate the logs. This is a dual cpu machine (about 2 years old now) that averages over 30 requests a second and peaks near 60. I used to be an OS snob. Now, not so much. I'm just a application platform snob now :) Mike Chytracek Managing Partner Ignite Solutions p. 312.239.0032 c. 815.302.3507 f. 866.839.7896 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~| Adobe® ColdFusion® 8 software 8 is the most important and dramatic release to date Get the Free Trial http://ad.doubleclick.net/clk;160198600;22374440;w Archive: http://www.houseoffusion.com/groups/CF-Linux/message.cfm/messageid:4379 Subscription: http://www.houseoffusion.com/groups/CF-Linux/subscribe.cfm Unsubscribe: http://www.houseoffusion.com/cf_lists/unsubscribe.cfm?user=17837.14401.14 |

Re: Any hosting companies offering CF8 on Linux? If you need mod_rewrite and need access to .htaccess files because of
shared hosting apache is probably your best bet. I don't know how likely you would be to find apache/windows hosts... though there is an IIS alternative (maybe not an alternative if your using a shared host)... http://www.isapirewrite.com/ best, - owen On 3/19/2008 8:17 AM, Bryan Capitano wrote: > Our site needs to use mod_rewrite and .htaccess functionality of Apache to > rewrite URL's. It will work; Many people say just fine, but we've run Apache for months one end without a hitch on Linux, while experiencing different issues on Windows. Good luck. Re: Any hosting companies offering CF8 on Linux? An Apache server on Linux only needs about half the horsepower that a
Windows machine does to achieve the same performance as well. I just recently set up a virtual machine with CF8 Updater 1 Beta 3 running through Apache on Ubuntu Server 7.10 x64. It runs great and I only needed to allocate 512MB of RAM for it. Dave On Wed, Mar 19, 2008 at 10:24 AM, Mike Chytracek <mikechy@...> wrote: > Ah.
