Apache connector missing after installing Snow Leopard (10.6)

Hi guys,

Just a heads up, after you update your OS to 10.6 / Snow Leopard, if
you are running Lasso 8.x on that machine you will need to crank up
the Lasso installer pkg and install the Apache connector. It seems to
get nuked by the 10.6 upgrade process.

Then you will need to open terminal, "sudo apachectl restart" will
reload apache with the Lasso Connector :)

FWIW so far the upgrade to Snow Leopard has gone without a hitch,
although I ran fsck and disk permissions before just in case :)

jonathan
does the apache httpd.conf file keeps all the vhosts and other
modified parameters after the 10.6 ?

Yes it seemed to, however I keep my vhosts in an external file so i
can edit it easily as I'm always adding/changing vhosts during
development.

on that note, i'll take this opportunity to extoll the virtues of a
wonderful little shell script i have come to rely upon:

http://code.google.com/p/virtualhost-sh/

this little dood is fantastic for setting up dev stuffs --- and
because it's just a shell script you can dig through it to see what
it's doing and/or change it to suit your needs (it even has an outside
conf file so your changes aren't overwritten when you update the
script)

it updates hosts, sets up a vhost in apache, restarts apache, and even
launches the browser of your choice to show you that the new vhost is
in place.

works like:

~ you Sites$ virtualhost ./your.new.site.tld

it prompts you for things, with good defaults, and it's done.

i love it.

Snow Leopard install

by Marc Vos-3 :: Rate this Message:

Before upgrading to Snow Leopard, I updated all my installed software
to the latest versions. I use the Dashboard widget 'appupdate' (http://gkaindl.com/software/app-update
) to check if there are any new versions and I start all the apps that
are not on MacUpdate, VersionTracker or Apple.

Here's what I found after the upgrade to Snow Leopard:

- After the install, during login, some Applescript asked me 'Where is
System Events'? Didn't know what app this was asking so I fed it
'Macintosh HD/System/Library/CoreServices/System Events'. Seems to work.

- My MySQL 5.1 installation was incomplete : the symbolic link in /usr/
local/ was gone - so to be sure I reinstalled. Now works.

- As already said : the LassoApache connector was gone. So I
reinstalled 8.5.6. Now works.

- Magical and Growl seem to work, but when you look in the console you
see 'just leaking' passing by every second. So I removed those from my
login items and wait for updates. Growl is being worked on.

- MindManager 7 doesn't work anymore. It starts, but you can't realy
do any ting useful because you you can only type in 1 character in a
branch.

- MacPilot : some Finder--settings do not work.

That's it for me. And I did an upgrade, not a clean install or save
and install.

Regards,
Marc Vos

me too

but let me add -- crazy fast!

(OK, it's always faster after an upgrade but this seems especially so)

I also found my Fujitsu Scanner (ScanSnap S510M) doesn't OCR anymore.
If anybody else has this issue, email me and I'll bring them up to
speed.

Other than that, along with the Lasso reinstall and MySQL reinstall
things went pretty smooth.  I haven't noticed anything faster, but my
Trash takes a very long time to empty.

My biggest notice was that the Grand Central works more or less as
advertised.  Say for instance you have mail, firefox and another app
open then open a monster app or game the other apps do give up their
resources when they are not being used, very cool.

For me I finally lost Freehand MX, I prefer it to Illustrator but oh
well, all good things must come to an end.

Adobe CS3 suite seems to work fine.

Parallels 4.0.3846 works.

Blender 3D and Audacity work

My obscure Zterm app from 2002 still works crazy enough.

...and most importantly World of Warcraft :-)

Zterm!  I haven't heard that since I switched to the native dialer in Mac OS 8 on my Mac Classic II.

For a list of incompatible software:
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3258

TidBITs had a series of good articles today about Snow Leopard:

You can get a small discount with free shipping through a TidBITs referral:

Losing Freehand would be a great loss :-(

Have you tried reinstalling it and then running the Adobe 'hot fix'
http://go.adobe.com/kb/cs_tn_18933_en-us
You also have to have custom installed Rosetta in the Snow Leopard
upgrade

best rgds

Nice list.

I found one gotcha big gotcha.  No FMS/A v9 support.  Requires upgrade to 10.

Says on both "Needed a reinstall" - that's only partially correct for
Lasso, and incorrect for MySQL.
Lasso needed the Apache connector to be reinstalled, and MySQL just
needed the soft link (ln -s) to be remade.

Trying to edit now ... interesting queue lock based editing system...

Well, I did a reinstall because I did not know what else would be
missing - just to be on the safe side. And it only takes a minute and
you don't need to type in commands in the terminal.

If you're sure it's only these two issues, then change it indeed.

Another thing I did was to set the 'System Preferences' app to start
in 32-bit mode because most 3rd party preference panes are 32-bit and
this way you won't get the message every time that System Prefs needs
to restart itself.

So I take it Lasso 8.5.6 on Snow Leopard is fine for production.

Would Lasso need a 64 bit apache connector?

Can't get mysql up and running. I did

        $ sudo ln -s /usr/local/mysql-5.0.51b-osx10.5-x86_64 /usr/local/mysql

but am getting

service: failed to start the 'mysql' service

Any advice what else I should be looking for?

Why are you using 64 bit?  It's buggy.
