Application for TU Hello everyone.
I'm interested in becoming a TU. Thotypous has agreed to be my sponsor. My current goals are: 1 - Doing my best to help in improving the AUR. Maintain my packages in good condition and encourage people to keep packages in AUR; 2 - I want to improve my knowledge related to ArchLinux and to help colleagues using Arch; 3 - I'd like to participate actively in decisions regarding to Arch; 4 - Representing Arch and talking about its philosophy and tools in events about Free Software. I currently maintain 21 packages in AUR (my user is corvolino). I'm already an Arch user for about 3 years. I use Linux since 2005. Since then, I have learned a lot with research, forums and friends. I'm a member of Arch Linux Brazil since the end of last year, where I already help with packages, documentation and translation. I also helped with documentation and support in other distributions I've used. For those who don't know me, I'm participatory and I'll always do what I can to help Arch Linux. Thanks for all those helped me so far, corvolino. -- corvolino ~ Linux User #459152 Blog - http://corvolinopunk.wordpress.com Archlinux-br Developer Team |

A couple of comments: 1) do not use specific sourceforge mirrors; use downloads.sourceforge.net instead (e.g. pidgin-festival) 2) you should use srcdir/pkgdir instead of startdir/ but I notice some PKGBUILDs do this so maybe it is is transition thing. 3) you can use "install -Dm" instead of "install -d" followed by "install -m" Other than that, you PKGBUILDs all look fine. I didn't notice anything very complicated in my quick skim through (no patching etc). Good luck, Allan |

Re: Application for TUA few notes on your PKGBUILDs
- url is a string, not an array (amule-upnp) - package description should not start with pkgname (baltazar, dirac-codec) - you can use $pkgname-$pkgver in source array, makes maintenance easier (cpuspeed) - backup array has preceding slashes (cpuspeed) - if you put a package in depends, there is no need to put it in makedepends as well (rtpproxy) - putting in '|| return 1' would be nice here (wireless-applet); this is especially important when you'll include patches. -- Abhishek |

Re: Application for TUAnother point...
You should keep other contributor's names in the package. You adopted the packages, right?! As I could see, you have packages from 2007 for example. And you had just put your name as the only one who contributed for the package. :/ When you adopt a package, you should put your name and keep the others. best regards --- - °v° Marcelo Cavalcante Rocha / Kalib - /(_)\ Usuário Linux #407564 / Usuário Asterisk #1148 - ^ ^ GNU-Linux - Livre, Poderoso e Seguro - TUX-CE Member - www.tux-ce.org - Archlinux-br Developer Team - http://archlinux-br.org - http://www.marcelocavalcante.net On Wed, Jul 1, 2009 at 5:43 AM, Abhishek Dasgupta <abhidg@...> wrote: > A few notes on your PKGBUILDs > > - url is a string, not an array (amule-upnp) > - package description should not start with pkgname (baltazar, dirac-codec) > - you can use $pkgname-$pkgver in source array, makes > maintenance easier (cpuspeed) > - backup array has preceding slashes (cpuspeed) > - if you put a package in depends, there is no need to put it in > makedepends as well (rtpproxy) > - putting in '|| return 1' would be nice here (wireless-applet); this > is especially important when you'll include patches. > > -- > Abhishek > |

Re: Application for TUHi all,
I'm glad to sponsor him. It has some time since I know him from the Brazilian community and he is a very helpful and collaborative guy. I will help him fixing any problems we may encounter. So this starts the discussion period. Best regards, Paulo Matias |

The url should be a string rather than an array. http://aur.archlinux.org/packages/amule-upnp/amule-upnp/PKGBUILD You should also describe exactly what is different about this package compared to the stock amule package. Cheers! |

I don't quite understand what you mean there. Can you try rephrasing that? Thanks. Did your sponsor say to leave the url as an array? |

Re: Application for TUI guess you should keep working for now. Improving your skills, etc..
I think you're doing a great job but need to practice and improve it more to become a TU. IMHO, off course.
