Apress Book about Mule 2 postponed again

OMG this is sooo frustrating.

Apress has now two or three times postponed the launch of Mule 2-book,
promising now October 2008.

I mean this is a book that was supposed to be ready before the summer,
then at the end of summer and now few months further.

It would finally be good to have a good documentation / book about
Mule 2 and it is so frustrating to have to wait.

Manning's Open Source ESBs in action is scheduled for release next month. You can download the early access PDF now though.

http://manning.com/rademakers/

About half of the book is dedicated to Mule 2.

You will be interested to know that, now, there is also the upcoming Mule in Action book, which is partially already available in early access.

I think our book, Open Source ESBs in action covers Mule in quite a bit of detail. We provide a lot of examples with the book. I've had to chance to do a review on the Mule in action book and I think the first 6 chapters look great. So with both books combined you should get a good picture of Mule.

Best regards,

Tijs Rademakers

"Open Source ESBs in action" is a good book to get you started with Mule but it is not a complete reference for all Mule features. I am looking forward to the Mule-2 book from Apress hoping it will cover advanced topics.

You are absolutely right about that. Both the Mule in Action as the Mule 2 book from Apress will cover more Mule features. But I think the Mule in Action book will cover Mule 2 in more detail when I look at the number of pages of the Apress book (160 pages).

Did purchase both now and Mule in Action looks promising.

My problem with the lack of books is not that I would not understand
Mule, but that it has made idea of selling mule harder for others -
who feel inclined to waddle through example code, wikis and figure out
things for themselves. Good book with a hands on approach and
tutorials / examples that get you up to speed are very good tools for
software adoption at large.

Anyway it is great to see that there are now three works in progress
for Mule. That must be a good thing also for the community.

I just wish there would also be more books about Alfresco :-D

The Apress book is a firstPress edition which is published as a forerunner to the full book which will follow on and will explore Mule in greater depth. So Tijs may well be right, depending on quite what you're looking for.

This firstPress edition is intended to provide an introduction to Mule 2 for developers new to the project. We've drawn on our course materials to provide these users with a book that will to help them learn Mule quickly and effectively. Our apologies for the delay, Ross is doing tech review and has provided some excellent input that will help improve the book but that does mean its taking longer to hit the shelves {:-)

The follow-up will explore Mule in greater depth and give more advanced users some very interesting insight into Mule. More on this in the coming weeks... in the meantime I haven't seen the Mule in Action book yet but I'm looking forward to reading it :-)

Hope this helps!

Cheers,
Peter.
