Hello,
The new SlugOS 5.3 beta is out. I just wondering what version of Asterisk is ready to install using the new opkg? Is Asterisk 1.6 available for 5.3 beta?

Thanks.

Jian

There's an Asterisk 1.6 in Optware for SlugOS 5.3. I haven't tried it
yet as I haven't upgraded my NSLU2 to 5.3 yet.

See http://ipkg.nslu2-linux.org/feeds/optware/slugos5be/cross/unstable/

Hi, Julian,

I am currently using Asterisk 1.6 on SlugOS 4.8. I want try to upgrade to 5.3 (maybe a fresh install)but I don't want rush into it if Asterisk is not the recent version.

As I understand, the new 5.3 use opkg to install package. The packages is in:
http://ipkg.nslu2-linux.org/feeds/slugosbe/cross/5.3-beta/
(You can see in this feed, Asterisk16 is not available at this moment. And the version 1.4 is quite old.)

Can you use both ipkg and opkg on 5.3? I am confused. There is another feed:
 http://ipkg.nslu2-linux.org/feeds/optware/slugos4be/cross/unstable

Yes, look in /sbin, there should be a setup-optware.sh that you can use. Be sure you don't mix opkg and ipkg. The optware feed for slugos 5 beta should be

 http://ipkg.nslu2-linux.org/feeds/optware/slugos5be/cross/unstable

Cheers,

Hi, Brian. Thank for the reply.

I think I sill need clearly understand what is going on here before I
try to install SlugOS 5.3.

1. For 5.3, ipkg-opt is not supported anymore, right?

2. In the new wiki page for 5.3:
http://www.nslu2-linux.org/wiki/SlugOS/InstallandTurnupABasicSlugOSSyste\
m
<Thanks,%20Brian.%20I%20think%20I%20sill%20need%20clearly%20understand%2\

?%20%202.%20In%20the%20new%20wiki:%20http://www.nslu2-linux.org/wiki/Slu\
gOS/InstallandTurnupABasicSlugOSSystem>  , it says "use  opkg"  and the
feed is http://ipkg.nslu2-linux.org/feeds/slugosbe/cross/5.3-beta/
<http://ipkg.nslu2-linux.org/feeds/slugosbe/cross/5.3-beta/>  .
Should it be
http://ipkg.nslu2-linux.org/feeds/optware/slugos5be/cross/unstable
<http://ipkg.nslu2-linux.org/feeds/optware/slugos5be/cross/unstable>  ?
I noticed the two feeds is different and the one list in the wiki page
does not have Asterisk16.

3. opkg is the recommended way to install packages in the new 5.3(and
all the future release), right?  When you say "don't mix opkg and ipkg",
is it mean I can's use ipkg at all, or I just can't use both install the
same package?

I'll try 5.3 this weekend(my 4.8 somehow is not stable recently). So I
need get my head clear about the opkg and ipkg, and the two different
feeds...

Thanks for help.

Jian

ipkg-opt == /opt/bin/ipkg

/opt/bin/ipkg and /opt/bin/ipkg-opt were installed by setting up optware. /opt/bin/ipkg-opt is there in slugos4 to avoid confusion with /usr/bin/ipkg.

In slugos5, /usr/bin/ipkg was changed to /usr/bin/opkg in the base distribution. /usr/bin/opkg manages packages built with openembedded recipes. Your /etc/opkg should only contain package feeds meant to be managed by /usr/bin/opkg, e.g.
  http://ipkg.nslu2-linux.org/feeds/slugosbe/cross/5.3-beta/

After you run /sbin/setup-optware, /opt/bin/ipkg and /opt/bin/ipkg-opt will be available. /opt/bin/ipkg manages packages built with optware build system. Optware ipk's are all installed with prefix set to /opt. Your /opt/etc/ipkg.conf and /opt/etc/ipkg/*.conf should only contain package feeds meant to be managed by /opt/bin/ipkg, e.g.
  http://ipkg.nslu2-linux.org/feeds/optware/slugos5be/cross/unstable

You can use both. Just be careful not to mix the feeds in your configuration. For instance,

# opkg list bash
bash - 3.2-r7 - An sh-compatible command language interpreter.
# ipkg list bash
bash - 3.2.33-1 - A bourne style shell
Successfully terminated.

Hope this clears up a bit.

-Brian

Hi, Brian, Now I understand much more about the package system. Thank you for the detailed explanation.
