Asterisk refuses to communicate with the SMTP daemon

Can anyone help - voicemail has been set up as per instructions but Asterisk refuses to communicate with the SMTP daemon - running the latest versions

The voicemail is showing as correctly configured to deliver the messages via e-mail, but the messages are not leaving the NSLU2, because the device doesn't have any system logger (syslog daemon) I am unable to view the errors if any errors

Can anyone help?

Some parts of this message have been removed. Learn more about Nabble's security policy.

Further to this post this morning the engineer working with me on this seems to think it is down to the amount of free memory available - he has taken the config on to a larger server and it all works OK - there is only 196M memory free - when there is 256M free on the grown up box it works.

Is there anything obvious that we have missed to keep the memory above this requirement?

NSLU2 has only 32M of RAM, but this should not be a problem.

You should configure esmtp (or ssmtp) and try it first from the shell command line. After you make sure that it works then you should configure asterisk.

Are you using Unslung or SlugOS ?
esmtp is available on Unslung and setup instructions are on the wiki
ssmtp is available on SlugOS. There ere no instruction posted but it works too.

Cheers,
Corneliu

hello,

I'm using a complete debian system on the NSLU2 (debian armel lenny) and
it works fine. The advantage is that everything works "out of the box".
My asterisk system has no problem to send email with whatever smtp
package you are using on it (I use postfix).

My 2 cents...
