Is there a way to use rg with both MIDI and audio? I Can't seem to get any midi to talk to jack, any ideas??
By the way, we love rosegarden.

Yes !

midi data itself doesn't produces any sound at all ! (as do
rosegardens midi tracks )
For midi to become audible, you need a synthesizer which
receives midi and outputs audio to jackd.

try zynaddsubfx: http://sourceforge.net/projects/zynaddsubfx/

I recommend to use qjackctl, to verify and setup the connections.
Note: in qjackctl, open the configuration. there is a listbox labeld
midi-driver. select "seq", restart jackd.

start jack, start zyn.
start rosegarden.
in rosegarden select zynaddsubfx as output.

the theory :

rosegarden => produces midi => send to synth (zynaddsubfx) => send to
jackd ==> output through soundcard

I've done this quite a few times.

Rosegarden will automatically connect and audio track to the audio side
of jack and (certainly with qjackctl) this will be connected to the
soundcard output, but if you haven't configured it properly it may not
find the synth on the MIDI side.

Also what synth are you using? Some of these don't automatically
make a connection to the audio side of jack.

Say you have a poem and I have a tune.
Exchange them and we can both have a poem, a tune, and a song.

You may find that all your midi devices are listed under the "alsa" tab of qjackctl rather than "MIDI".

One time I was confused because some things appeared under the "Midi" tab and the synth I wanted tou use was listed under "alsa". There is a setting in the config section where you can change this should you have this situation.

At the moment though everything is apearing under "ALSA", even actual midi hardware and this is fine by be.

It is quite possible to have rosegarden play a midi track to a synth an simultaneously record the audio onto an audio track.

Having said all that, it took me a while to figure out how to get the metronome working (I still regard myself as a beginner with RG).
