Audio refuses serviceThe setting:
an older Titanium Powerbook, just for Skype and Radio Shark (in-and output by USB), OS 10.5.8 and all newest software updates. Accessed by screen sharing. The problem This worked fine since years, until yesterday: suddenly, while listening to the news: no sound anymore. I checked other audio software and all necessary prefs, no sound. Restarting, everything worked again for about 5 minutes, then: no sound anymore. Waiting (without restarting) about 10 minutes, sound came back, but again, only for a short time. Wiped out the HD completely, set up a new OS 10.5.8: the same problem still persists. Question: Is there a software to check the audio device of the computer? Thanks for help Rudolf _______________________________________________ MacOSX-talk mailing list MacOSX-talk@... http://www.omnigroup.com/mailman/listinfo/macosx-talk |

If any software does this, it would be the Apple Hardware Test on the original boot disk for this model. Depending on the vintage of the Mac, you either hold down the D key while booting from the CD/DVD, or you hold down Option and then choose the AHT partition. -- Macs R We -- Personal Macintosh Service and Support in the Wickenburg and far Northwest Valley Areas. http://macsrwe.com _______________________________________________ MacOSX-talk mailing list MacOSX-talk@... http://www.omnigroup.com/mailman/listinfo/macosx-talk |

If it's a software problem, why don't you give Tiger a spin? _______________________________________________ MacOSX-talk mailing list MacOSX-talk@... http://www.omnigroup.com/mailman/listinfo/macosx-talk |

Good idea, but I' not expert in screensharing (I can access the Powerbook only through screensharing). Screensharing is build in Leo and needs only a click on a small Applescript, but I have any idea how to handle that in Tiger.... _______________________________________________ MacOSX-talk mailing list MacOSX-talk@... http://www.omnigroup.com/mailman/listinfo/macosx-talk |

You can just use a VNC server and client like http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/11283/vine-server-%26-viewer _______________________________________________ MacOSX-talk mailing list MacOSX-talk@... http://www.omnigroup.com/mailman/listinfo/macosx-talk |

Funny enough: after a few days out of office, the interruptions are less frequently and last for shorter time. This is, what I I have dedected at the console: "03.11.09 00:03:47 kernel WARNING: AppleUSBAudio has detected that clock_get_uptime () value changed radically from previous values". Does anybody know, what that message would tell exactely?? ************************ Rudolf O. IIRC it's related to bus counters. It might be a meaningless error, though if you are having problems it is most likely related. --Larry _______________________________________________ MacOSX-talk mailing list MacOSX-talk@... http://www.omnigroup.com/mailman/listinfo/macosx-talk |

I'm unfortunately not a geek in computer sciences *smiling* But this morning, I had a few more messages on the console after the radio started (radio start is automatic at 08:15:00 through cron) "03.11.09 08:15:03 kernel Sound assertion "0 != err" failed in "AppleLegacyAudio/AppleTexas2Audio/AppleTexas2Audio.cpp" at line 960 goto Exit" Then I had a few minutes of sound, and that stopped again, with several messages about the clock_get_uptime () value, which has changed, followed by "03.11.09 08:17:19 kernel IOAudioStream[0x1cd2700]::clipIfNecessary() - Error: attempting to clip to a position more than one buffer ahead of last clip position (18,1c41)->(175,7a1)." "03.11.09 08:17:19 kernel IOAudioStream[0x1cd2700]::clipIfNecessary() - adjusting clipped position to (174,1c41)" What is now clipped where? The radio is a live stream, no recording is set. Anybody can help me with that? _______________________________________________ MacOSX-talk mailing list MacOSX-talk@... http://www.omnigroup.com/mailman/listinfo/macosx-talk |
