Audiofile Processor "ping-pong"

Currently, the Audiofile Processor has three modes: normal, reverse and
loop, the latter two activated with their specific toggle buttons.  It
would be awesome if a fourth mode (a third button) could be added that
does "ping-pong" playback.  People who used trackers in the past (or
still do) know what this is.  For those who don't: it's a mixture of
normal, reverse and loop.  The sample is played forwards and backwards
in a loop between the starting and ending position; at the beginning,
it's played forwards.  When the end position is reached, it immediately
(with no pause at all) plays backwards until the starting position, and
when that is reached it plays forwards again until the ending, etc, etc,
ad infinitum.

This constant "back and forth" was used heavily in trackers and, other
than just give some interesting effects, it also makes it possible to
create "instruments" that loop without clicks and pops (strings or
choirs, for example, since they sound pretty much the same regardless of
whether they're played backwards of forwards; ping-pong allows for long,
looped notes without artifacts.)

Sounds simple enough.

Would you please submit a formal feature request then email me back
when you've done so. I will assign myself to that job.

A very important feature missing (which might make this back and forth thing really useless)
is the ability of LMMS to read loop points stored in wave files. I have lots of samples with
perfect loop points which are NOT read in Audiofile Processor. Please, fix this along if this is
also not very hard. It would really make a big difference.

Yeah, and note that the way it is now if you make back and forth it would go back and forth over all
of the sample which is not always desired, especially with things like piano notes.

Yeah no problem.  I've wanted loop-points read from wavs for a while now anways.
We may have to do a secondary load of the file just to scrape the loop
data, since the library that is being used now does not know about
loops AFAIK.

My two cents : what's about a button on the audiofile plugin which
would permit to swap between two modes for the "start position" and
"end position" knobs ?

mode 1 : same as the current mode
mode 2 : start ans end positions would only go at "zero crossing"
positions

This second mode would permit to loop some samples more cleanly, no ?

A back and forth mode would be useful too, for sure.
