I'm not familiar with this editor; can anyone here vouch for them Kinda funny, no one vouching for tykling, but now he's an autoeditor. Is this telling? Well, it does seem as though the discourse aspect of this list is indeed broken, since apparently nobody has anything intelligent to inject into the process. Instead, all I'm getting is this pointless pissing and moaning after the fact. Evaluating tykling was easy. I looked at his profile and I looked at his edits. It took about 15 minutes. I found that, while his edit count seemed a little low and his area of interest was extremely narrow (Danish hip-hop), there was an attention to detail there that seemed to merit autoeditorship, and he also seemed to have a thorough understanding of the ins and outs of MB. Also, I could see that the people who nominated him were subscribers to his edits and occasionally collaborated with him, so it was clear that 2 autoeditors, at least, liked his work. What more would you want, I figured. I don't get it - do the work & vote, or don't do it and STFU. - Dave Smey (bklynd) _______________________________________________ MusicBrainz-automods mailing list MusicBrainz-automods@... http://lists.musicbrainz.org/mailman/listinfo/musicbrainz-automods |

I don't think that's quite fair; Geof Morris specfically asked upfront, and there's certainly something to be said for a personal recommendation. Re: Automod Election: tykling> I don't get it - do the work & vote, or don't do it and STFU. > Well, I apologize for my crankiness. It's just that I know how uncollegial it is to be elected autoeditor and then be greeted with a cascade of messages criticizing the election. In my case I'm confident that I had a solid profile (2 years membership, now 950 edits, music professional) and yet people complained that they "hadn't seen me around" and that checking out the flood of nominees was just so hard. The basic principle remains, I think - do the work & vote, or blow it off and don't worry about it. What is there to bitch about. If people want to use this list productively, though, I'd suggest discussing a nominee's profile in line with whatever criteria one deems relevant. Those might include: - number of edits - length of membership - background (as a potential plus, obvs not a negative) - areas of interest (broader is better?) - variety of edits, level of detail - "troubleshooting" edits, fixing the existing data - whether they participate in voting I know, I'm lecturing, but you guys seem stuck in a dumb place right now. Get over it. - Dave Smey (bklynd) _______________________________________________ MusicBrainz-automods mailing list MusicBrainz-automods@... http://lists.musicbrainz.org/mailman/listinfo/musicbrainz-automods |

Re: Automod Election: tyklingWe already do those things, as any cursory look back over the list's
history would tell you. I voted yes for tykling on this basis, but in any case, a personal recommendation and endorsement, and acknowledgement that the nominee has expressed an interest in becoming an AutoEditor goes a lot further. Looking through edit history doesn't allow you do gain the same impression of an editor's attitude and outlook that someone who's watched the editors edits over time would do. "Uncollegial" is acting like someone spoilt your own party because they raised questions about the process afterwards. Don't take it personal, it's really not. We're all here trying to make sure we don't accidentally elect Mugabe through lack of election interest. :) Welcome tykling (and Dave, belatedly)!
