This is the Santa Barbara County rare bird report being posted on Friday,
November 13, 2009 at 6:00 p.m.  If you have a rare bird sighting to report,
please post it to sbcobirding@....  The rare bird alert number
for Santa Barbara is no longer in service.

No reports this week, but it's likely the GRACE'S WARBLER, continues at the
Bella Vista Open Space in Goleta.  This is the same area where one was last
winter.

Off of the Campus Point area, look for all 3 species of scoter including an
adult male BLACK SCOTER and a female-type WHITE-WINGED SCOTER.  An adult
GLAUCOUS-WINGED GULL was also in this area.

At Lake Los Carneros, a LEWIS'S WOODPECKER continues in the row of pines on
the west side of the lake.  An AMERICAN BITTERN, COMMON MOORHEN, WOOD DUCKS
and a fly-over OSPREY were also seen around the lake.

A LEWIS'S WOODPECKER was also seen along Farren Road in west Goleta.

A CACKLING GOOSE was in the small pond at the Rancho Goleta Mobile Home Park
at the end of Ward Drive.  Birders are welcome here as long as they park on
Ward and walk in.

A RED-BREASTED NUTHATCH was in the pines at the open space at the corner of
Via Salerno and Cambridge.  This spot is worth keeping an eye on due to the
heavier than normal cone crop.

At the Bird Refuge, look for a male HOODED MERGANSER, a TROPICAL KINGBIRD,
and a CACKLING GOOSE.

MOUNTAIN CHICKADEE, BROWN CREEPER, and a western WINTER WREN were seen along
Kinevan Road.

Highlights from Lake Cachuma this week included 26 AMERICAN WHITE PELICANS,
up to 8 BALD EAGLES, WOOD DUCKS, HOODED MERGANSERS and 2 CACKLING GEESE.  A
MOUNTAIN BLUEBIRD was on Jackrabbit Flats along the lake.

FERRUGINOUS HAWKS have returned to the Torrey Pine roost tree in Lompoc at
the corner of East Olive and South C Streets

At Surf Beach, one BLACK and two WHITE-WINGED SCOTERS were seen.  Ocean Park
had 9 CANVASBACKS and a EURASIAN WIGEON.

Good Birding in Santa Barbara County and please post your sightings.
