BIRT report generation through JAVA

I am using BIRT for report generation from last 3 months but am not able to do following changes in BIRT report using JAVA;

1. Dynamically change no. of columns in the table as per the parameter value.

2. Modify Chart in the existing chart report.

Please someone help me in this regard as its urgently required in my project.

I am not much familier in designing BIRT reports through JAVA please suggest me some documents to get familier with it.
