BU-303 Sporadic Fix Results

Hello all:
Just got a BU-303 and got it working with gpsd after a little trial and error. I can get a fix now but it is spotty. In watch mode every other O returns ?, also gpsd reports has a fix, then confused, then has a fix, then confused... see the snippet below. Also below that is a snippet from `gpsd -D3` This is workable but it makes navigation a bit of a hassle. Any advice on why this happens or how to fix it?
