Hi, I just won a ys 828 on ebay. Not as described but its mine now. When did they go from the metal tank to the plastic? Is there any tricks to do to this to give it better performance. It looks like the oil has not been changed in years. Looking for parts to clean this thing up.. Any suggestions?  Great forum

Welcome to the board and congrads.  Clean the carb, rinse off the fuel filter screen, and test the compression.  Is the performance in question? First Yamaha?  Post a photo when you get a chance.

Thanks, I had a 624 track for about 10 years and sold it when I went south. I came back and the first thing I did was try to get it back,The new owner would not let it go. So I got this one now, Its a ys 828tec as far as i can tell. Its the only one with a metal tank. I looked it over last night, Someone lost the pet cock bowl so they put a piece of hose with a spark plug in it. The skids are ground down along with the scraper bar, So much that it was grinding the augers down. The impeller looks like it shot a brick out of it, One fin is bent back. Looks like who ever owned this used it to spread stones. I made a list and as long as parts are available It will get fixed up. Here are the before pictures. Does anyone know if the larger plastic tank will work on this. The little metal looks to small. And if so does anyone have one for sale. Also need owners manual and service manual.

Looks like a solid machine, no rust and not much wear. The few issues you mentioned sound minor.  Nothing expensive or anything that would interfere with performance (well maybe the impeller will need looked after). But the snowblower looks very nice.  I'm amazed at the abuse people will put these things through. Makes no sense. Run the simple compression test outlined in the service manual before you go overboard.  Never hurts to know what sort of TLC the previous owner provided.

The manuals are an easy download thanks to YamaBlowerLover and DrPcFix:
