Unfortunately it seems to be quite normal. I've been seeing incorrectly
rendered Banshee notification icons for some time and the behavior
continues to be present on Ubuntu Karmic. It hasn't really bothered me
enough to look into it too deeply, but it seems that
/usr/share/pixmaps/banshee.xpm has a transparent background, so the
problem must be in how Banshee renders the icon into its notification
icon area.

I have also seen it some times in Fedora.

I'm running 1.5.1 on karmic and the notification icon has the proper
transparency. Switching between light and dark themes works fine.

i'm running 1.5.1 on karmic too, and my icon stands out, with the solid background.
