Beta-5 PPC Boot media** Originally posted to openSUSE factory list **
Finally got images for PPC with matching MD5 sums, and now I'm confused about booting. As suggested in various places, openSUSE-11.1-Beta5-NET-ppc.iso won't boot on my G3 iMac. Nor will openSUSE-11.1-Beta5.1-NET-ppc.iso - this was more of a surprise. I checked the hardware with the 11.0 version, that boots fine but install dies with the expected message about a locked storage subsystem. Bug https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=446182 opened > I saw the extra directory "11.1B5_PPC_Hotfix" but (a) is this relevant > to my platform (neither Pegasos nor Efika) and (b) if so, how do I use > teh files? I now understand that these aren't relevant to iMac > Alternatively, is there a way of using the 11.0 boot media, maybe by > modbprobe-ing the relevant driver module? And Andreas Jaeger advises that there is no way to do this :-( -- Cheers Richard (MQ) -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-ppc+unsubscribe@... For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-ppc+help@... |

Please boot copy the inst32 file (or the unpackaged linux32.gz and initrd32) to your existing installation, add it to the bootloader configuration and boot it. For an G3 iMac, the files in CD/suseboot/ or from http://download.opensuse.org/distribution/11.1-Beta5/PPC-HotFix/ should work. Olaf -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-ppc+unsubscribe@... I couldn't see what you meant by this but have now successfully booted using factory ISO build 0133 http://powerpc.opensuse.org/factory/iso/openSUSE-11.1-Beta5.2-NET-ppc-Build0133-Media.iso However I now have problems once the installation configuration is complete and install phase proper starts - it dies with error -3028 when setting a partition label - see bug 447782 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=447782 Has *anyone* managed an iMac / PPC installation using 11.1-Beta5 / 5.1 / 5.2 ? -- Cheers Richard (MQ) -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-ppc+unsubscribe@...
