I just picked up a 1981 Yamaha Virago 750.  Its been sitting for 15 years and was wondering what you would suggest in order to get the bike up and running again.

We drained all the fluids, replaced the air and oil filter.  Replaced the battery, spark plugs.

The bike sounds like it wants to kick over but it wont.  We tried to start it in gear but that didnt work either.  Also it seems when we hit the igition there is gas dripping steadily from the exhaust.

Above is a file that will be a lot of help. You are going to have to rebuild the Carbs, just do it. Kits are available at www.partsnmore.com or www.bikebandit.com. The check for signs of deteriation of hoses, carb holders, etc. Replace what is necessary. New battery.

15-years and still filled with fluids?!? You're gonna have to rebuild/recondition the carbs. Most likely, the jets are rusted and sludge/varnish is throughout the system. Also check the tank for rust. Mine is a '95 and I let it sit for two weeks with a half tank and the other half rusted badly.

Keep us posted as to your results and GL with this one...
