&lt;br&gt;National Science Foundation-funded web resource for thousands of plant 
&lt;br&gt;biology researchers worldwide, providing free access to a wide array of 
&lt;br&gt;biological data and analysis tools for the model plant Arabidopsis, 
&lt;br&gt;including the first and most complete multicellular eukaryotic genome 
&lt;br&gt;sequence. The Carnegie Institution Department of Plant Biology is 
&lt;br&gt;co-located with the Department of Global Ecology on a seven-acre site on 
&lt;br&gt;the campus of Stanford University.
&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;We are currently seeking applicants for the position of database 
&lt;br&gt;curator. The successful candidate will work with a team of curators, 
&lt;br&gt;software engineers, and database developers to provide data to over 
&lt;br&gt;16,000 users of the TAIR website and database.
&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;Main Responsibilities:
&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;• Read current research articles and extract gene function and plant 
&lt;br&gt;metabolic pathway data for loading into TAIR and related databases
&lt;br&gt;• Contribute to the development of standard curation procedures
&lt;br&gt;• Participate in data management processes such as bulk data processing, 
&lt;br&gt;data exchange with other databases, and new version releases
&lt;br&gt;• Provide support to the research community including answering 
&lt;br&gt;questions, providing training on how to use the database and related 
&lt;br&gt;tools, and helping them with large data submissions
&lt;br&gt;• Participate in design of new or improved web interfaces and tools
&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;Requirements:
&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;• A Ph.D in Biology or related discipline with research experience in 
&lt;br&gt;plant biology
&lt;br&gt;• Demonstrated ability for independent, critical thinking
&lt;br&gt;• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
&lt;br&gt;• Ability to work well as part of a team
&lt;br&gt;• Good basic computer skills (word processing, spreadsheets, web browsers)
&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;Recommended:
&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;• Experience with Internet-based literature searching, Unix, HTML, Perl 
&lt;br&gt;and mySQL would be useful but is not required.

	<content type="html">A scientific database curator position is available immediately in Dr.
&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;Sue Rhee's group at the Carnegie Institution, Department of Plant
&lt;br&gt;Biology (Stanford, CA). This position is to develop a comprehensive
&lt;br&gt;catalog of plant metabolic pathways and enzymes. The project expands the
&lt;br&gt;coverage of metabolic pathways from AraCyc
&lt;br&gt;(www.arabidopsis.org/biocyc/index.html) to all known pathways in all
&lt;br&gt;plant species. This database will be used as a reference database to
&lt;br&gt;generate other organism-specific plant pathway databases such as for
&lt;br&gt;maize, wheat, and poplar. The curator will be responsible for:
&lt;br&gt;i)researching new plant metabolic pathways and enzymes in the scientific
&lt;br&gt;literature, and to evaluate, extract, organize, and enter that
&lt;br&gt;information to the database; ii) contributing to the development of
&lt;br&gt;standard procedure and operation rules on curation methods and to the
&lt;br&gt;general development of the database, such as data integration, web page
&lt;br&gt;enhancement, and data exchange with other databases; and iii)
&lt;br&gt;communicating with the research community to improve the quality of the
&lt;br&gt;data, to train them in using the database and related tools, and to
&lt;br&gt;support user requests. The successful candidates will work with highly
&lt;br&gt;trained metabolism curators (post-Ph.D. level biologists with an
&lt;br&gt;expertise in plant metabolism), software developers and a number of
&lt;br&gt;pioneering plant biochemists around the world.
&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;Qualified candidates should have a Ph.D. degree or equivalent in
&lt;br&gt;biochemistry or related field. The successful candidate should also have
&lt;br&gt;a demonstrated ability for independent and critical thinking, excellent
&lt;br&gt;communication and teamwork skills. Experience with Unix operating
&lt;br&gt;system, Perl, and web page editing is an extra asset.

	<content type="html">&lt;br&gt;Cornell Plant Breeding invites applications for admission to its Ph.D. 
&lt;br&gt;program. &amp;nbsp;USDA National Needs Graduate Fellowships are available for 
&lt;br&gt;U.S. citizens/permanent residents interested in combining plant 
&lt;br&gt;breeding, crop genomics, and bioinformatics. Participating faculty 
&lt;br&gt;conduct a broad range of research activities and encourage 
&lt;br&gt;interdisciplinary projects. Excellent facilities are available for 
&lt;br&gt;laboratory, computational, greenhouse and field studies. Fellows will 
&lt;br&gt;have opportunities for lab rotations, international activities and 
&lt;br&gt;interactions with industry.
&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;Financial support includes a 12 month stipend of at least $26,000, full 
&lt;br&gt;tuition, and health insurance. Support is provided for the full duration
