Yes, it sure is. Join the club (of all the p*ssed-off people who run into

this crap). All carriers do some of this, but Verizon seems to be the biggest

offender, in my view.

user (like me), one thing I'd try would be to boot up Windows (XP or Vista, or Win-7...whatever's handy), install the Windows-version of Bitpim there, and see

<RANT-ON>I just ran into this 'locked out' crap again this past week, as I inquired about

the two new VZ/Google phones (Moto Droid and HTC Eris) 'touch phone/PDAs' that

Verizon is show-casing. They both have 'wifi-feature', which WOULD BE cool, if

Verizon didn't LOCK-OUT the entire devices from working over 'wifi' until you

get your 2-year-contract activated. My exact question was: "Can I pay FULL-PRICE

for either of these two devices, and use it as a hand-held computer to access the

Internet via the wifi-link (and just not-make phone-calls)?"

You shouldn't be surprised, when the answer from Verizon came back:

"No. (Sorry.)"

Everything seems to be OK, but I get the (Access to the file/directory
has been blocked on this phone by the phone provider) message.

I am using Bitpim 1.0.6. on upuntu 8.04.3. My phone is an LG VX5300 and

I can't help with the error, but I just installed 1.0.7.20090805 under
Win7 Pro x64 and it worked fine.

I first installed the Motorola x64 drivers v4.0.0. (The MSI download
won't install under Win7; you have to install the drivers manually. See
here for details:
http://www.sevenforums.com/drivers/2567-motorola-phone-drivers.html#post25122)

I then installed BitPim, ran it, browsed to my phone on COM3 and loaded
the phone book.

(I don't think it should matter, but my system already had Python 2.5
and 2.6 installed...)

Have you tried using Vista or XP compatibility mode for the heck of it?

Samsung SPH-m320

I joined this list under either the name Dogbearbyter or Louis Sonier, I think. I have a Samsung SPH-m320 phone and my carrier is Bell Mobility. I have a little bit of luck selecting the M300PIM with which I can access phonebook, calender, memo, todo and sms. Under M300MEDIA I can access wallpaper and ringtone. Both only work over USB cable. I am hoping that support for this phone be added to the list for bitpim. I really like the program otherwise, and am looking to access photos on the phone wtihout invoking the upload/download and access to the internet on both devices when they are right next to each other. Thank you.

I see that there has been some revisions yesterday for the LG VX9200
/Env3. Can a developer mention when a new test system might be
available? I have had no luck in trying to run from source code. Is
this one of the issues that might be fixed? Can I help the
developers in any way with the ENV3? Thanks.

I am just trying to send the contacts from the phone to bitpim.

I think I went over the 256 (264) entries in my phone. This is less
than the 1000 entries the phone supports.

I turned the phone off, and back on, bitpit crashes at the same point.
The entry for 258 has only two items, phone number, default
The entry for 259 has six items, but nothing has changed.

I recorded a debug log,

VX9200 Contact list issue

These are my findings on the bitpim phone book issue with the VX9200 (enV3).

Problem: Using bitpim version 1.0.7.20080908 I imported a CSV phonebook
from another phone, then sent it to the VX9200 which resulted in the
common problem of the first 4 digits of all the numbers being missing.

Troubleshooting: I reset the phone to factory settings and created a
sample contact. Then I imported the contact list into bitpim. That
contact's first number (cell) had 0000 in front of it, the second (home
phone) had 0100 in front of it, third (fax or work) 0200, etc... So I
edited the numbers of all my actual contacts from my old phone and
placed 0000, 0100, 0200 and 0300 in front of the phone numbers for each
contact and sent that to the phone. This resulted in the contacts being
accurate. However, when a call was received from the person who is the
3rd entry in my contacts, the caller ID and received calls showed up as
the first contact in my contact list. The 72nd one in the list called
me and everything showed up normally.

Sorry, it turn out I can boot bitpim and hit contine, but the main window never comes up. All of the menu items actually work and come up such as the preference window, even the get data from phone, but the exception i got that time was this:

Can't boot BitPim at all (Exception)

Error every time. Can't open it. Was working on my friend's mac book pro intel with snow leopard this afternoon. haven't even plugged the phone in so that's not even the issue.

Samsung SPH-M320 on Bell Mobility

Hi I have a Samsung SPH-M320 phone on Bell Mobility in Canada. Bitpim
detects other CDMA phone on Com 9, but the dialog box is grayed out when
I try to browse the phone. Hope it gets support soon. I would like to
get photos off the phone directly to my computer without using the
online service over the data link and the internet. Thank you.

Dwain,
First and foremost, install XCode tools. This is not installed by
default but is available as a free download from Apple's Developer
site.
Next, check out http://bitpim.org/developer.html This page has a
step-by-step list of libraries you'll need. In each case, you'll want
to build them by hand and not through ports, fink, etc...

ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ALWAYS match the correct version number to the one you
have installed. The build will die with versions that are too old or
too new.

Over the past four years I have occaisionally posted notes on the
developer list regarding the finer points of building bitpim on OS X,
especially when it comes to APSW. You will definitely want to search
through the archives for these posts and save yourself a lot of
headscratching.

Finally, when you hit a roadblock, remember that anyone who follows in
your tracks is going to hit the same roadblock. Post questions to the
developer list so they are maintained in collective consciousness.

I'm sorry to say that there is little for you in this regard.
Historically, I have been in charge of the mac builds but development
has crawled to a halt. This, coupled with a catastropic hard disk
failure on my surviving PPC machine has relagated the PPC builds to an
unfortunate end. It is still posible to build it on your platform,
but it will take a couple of hours of your time.

help for that). I'm wondering if a release of 1.0.7 might use later

LG 8700 Shine BitPim error

Hello
This phone once worked with BitPim, but the Bluetooth died on the phone, so it was sent for repair. Upon return, no versions of BitPim work. Any solutionsare much appreciated. Thanks....Steve

Use the link, select your carrier (Verizon) & your phone enV Touch
VX11000. Wait a couple of seconds until it changes. To the right of
the picture of the phone, you will see what looks like a PDF file
(third one down) for a USB Cable Driver. Double click to load and
save it on your desktop. Hope this helps.

Exception caused by permissions issue?

I get the exception below when I try to create a memo in Bitpim to put
on my LG Touch. I use Bitpim on a Toshiba laptop running Ubuntu 8.04.

Is this a permissions problem? If so, how do I resolve it?

Further testing of 1.0.7.20090805 - I have found that it will work
intermittently (about 1 in 10 sync attempts.) Log file from a
successful sync follows. I do not have any pattern established for
when a sync will succeed or fail.

hey im in the same situation so i did the same thing as you
what you need to do is after you are done go into settings on bitpim and without using the phone wizard manually change the phone to lg voyager
this worked for me, hope it works for you as well
also you need to do this every time you plug in the phone so it can be quite irritating

How to build script to sync with google calendar?

Hey Bitpim'ers,

I am wondering what the best way would be to sync my phone calendar, (LG Chocolate 3) with all the google calendars I have or subscribe to (5+). I know I can use the the File->Import->Google Calendar... feature, but I am looking for a way to automate this, and if possible to activate when I plug my phone in to my computer (USB). I run Windows XP SP3 btw.

BitPim-1.0.7.20090805 regression vs. 1.0.5?

Hi,

I've been using BitPim for years, with an LG VX 8100, no problems, for phonebook and calendar syncing. I connect to the phone via BlueTooth. I have had no trouble with 1.0.5. I tried 1.0.7.20090805 and got the dreaded "Access to the file/directory has been blocked on this phone by the phone provider" error. Still, 1.0.5 works properly.

Some more details:

My phone is running software version T81VZV04. I understand there is an 07 revision firmware out but I do not have it.

Protocol logs for a calendar sync, same calendar data, first done with 1.0.5 (succeeds) and then done with 1.0.7.20090805 (fails)

I have noticed the 1.0.7 version does much more "automatic dialing" of digits as it synchronizes, compared to 1.0.5.

Here are the logfiles - hope someone can help me fix this or at least point me in the right direction.

Retrieving SMS from a Razor v3c

I have a Motorola Razor v3c. It has over 1800 SMS messages on it. I
want to save them. (Actually I want to save a subset of them but
deleting them one at a time via the phone's interface is painful at
best.) I've used the release version of bitpim (1.0.6) and the test
version (1.0.7.20090805) under both Windows XP and Linux. Both
versions under both operating systems can retrieve the phone info but
the SMS copy doesn't result in any SMS messages being visible in
bitpim. I can browse the filesystem and create a zip file of the
msging directory on the phone. I increased the timeout to the maximum
(99 seconds.)

To produce the logs I'm attaching I used the test version of bitpim. I
did a copy from phone, SMS messages, replace all. After quite a while
(you can tell the exact timing from the log) I got a popup: "Failed to
auto-detect the port to use. I couldn't detect and candidate ports."

Has anyone pulled the SMS messages off of a very full Razor v3c?

Is there another program that could parse the files directly?

I'd happily try any suggestion to get this working or provide any more
debugging information requested. I'll also send the protocol log if
that's of interest but it's over 300k and I hate to spam the list like
that.

If your Dare is anything like my enV3, you may be able to copy the pics directly off of the microSD card, using a USB card reader plugged into your computer (or using your computer's card slot, if it has one).

If you don't have a card, get one. If you have one but your photos aren't on the card, you should be able to go into Photos, Options, Manage My Pics, then select the photos you want and in Options find Move and select Move to card. When that finishes pop the card out and into your computer.

If you have a card, but the photos weren't stored on it, there's an option for that under Settings, Memory, Save Options.

Hope the Dare is similar enough that this works for you, it's how I normally retrieve my photos from my enV3 (with the card in the computer, Lightroom imports them directly).

Yup, calls too.

Further testing shows that it is simpler than that. Erasing and manually re-entering the corrupted contact causes them to be properly identified on calls and text messages.

So, perhaps there's a reverse index from phone number to contact which didn't get updated. Or if the phone searches the contact list at the moment of need then something about the sent contacts causes them to be skipped in the search.
