Blackbird woes

Hi Guys

I have had a fun day in the garage today attempting to get to the bottom of
what is wrong with my lump.  Not cam chain tensioner, not clutch assembly.
Think highly likely big end on 4 has picked up and is giving a bit of piston
slap.  Took out clutch plates and ran without and has a listen with
stethoscope - noise high up and in vicinity of #4.  In the end took engine
out ready for a full strip.

I have had a look at my manual and also investigated the web.  It seems to
me that from 2001 onwards that the engine on the bird remained unchanged to
the end of production in 2007.  Can any of you confirm/give clarification of
this or describe modifications?  I have also had a look about for a second
hand unit.  Any suggestions as to how much I should look to pay and/or from
where one could be sourced?

Jonathan Rarity - do you still have billet sumps for the bird?  We discussed
this last year but I was distracted and didn't come back to you - sorry!  I
would be grateful if you would be so good as to give me a call on 07766 620
987.

Cheers
Phil Lovegrove

Any of you guys got a spare hayabusa head lying around (complete assembly
needed cams, valves etc)

I sourced one last week only to find the previous owner in his infinite
wisdom had drilled out the mounting head threads from m10 to m12 :((((((

Hi JR.

I don't know is it called in english, but can't you use something like 'false threads" or "insertion threads"...

Cheers,
Joao

'Helicoil' is a brand name for this product that's recognised in the
UK (and Australia, at least).
If you need some, Jonathan, shout. I have, err, several.

You may be able to get a Motor Cycle Repair Dealer to Helicoil the Head, this is a Stainless Steel Insert , Put Into the Head with a Special Tool, you should be able to get a 12 mm Insert Reducing to 10 mm, Good Luck.

Thanks for the info boys but helicoils are not an option here.  The thread
is the head M12 on a 1.75 pitch a Helicoil would reduce to M10 but there is
no such thing as a M10 on a 1.75 pitch so unable to get bolts to fit.

The good news is we think we might have sourced a head .... Fingers crossed

Wurth do a solid insert, which may be a solution. Helicoils are good but unless the holes have been tapped out using the specific Helicoil tap that comes with the kit, they probably won't fit correctly.
