Re: Blamstrain albums available for free / paywhatyouwant downloadYou can just name your own price on an album (click on Download and
it'll ask you the price..) and that'll work as a donation. If you pay more than 0€ you don't have to put your email in either ;) Thanks! Re: Blamstrain albums available for free / paywhatyouwant downloadI'm really liking "Galaxy Spots," and the B side makes for a nice

It's 380MB of FLAC for "Ensi", and it looks like it'll take 4 or 5 hours to download those... :( (And no, it's not my cable modem - a download from archive.org I've just started is chugging along at 200+ kB/second...) -- Kurt Bernhard Pruenner --- Haendelstrasse 17 --- 4020 Linz --- Austria .......It might be written "Mindfuck", but it's spelt "L-A-I-N"....... np: David Sylvian - The Beekeeper's Apprentice (Approaching Silence) --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@... Blamstrain album for the foreseeable future, so I'm gonna try and make it worth the wait. [...] Earlier this year, one of my favorite bands left their label, recorded a new album, and released it as a digital download from their own website. The hour it was due out, I headed to their site, and after several minutes of watching the page struggle to load, concluded that they were just slammed and made a note to check back the next day. But when I did, the site was, once again, excruciatingly slow. Re: Re: Blamstrain albums available for free / paywhatyouwant downloadWell I, at least, have now bought more blamstrain than I ever knew
existed, and I've hyped Exosphere on the 313 list, where Shake Shakir said nice things about it. Maybe someday all the snot-nosed brats that hang out on this list will figure out that music is worth paying for, even when you can download an artists' complete discography free on bittorrent. Re: Re: Blamstrain albums available for free / paywhatyouwant downloadI wouldn't be so quick to dismiss free music, George Fredreich Handel would
give free music concerts, it did undercut the value of his music. Surely the value of an artists music is not measured in the price we give it but the emotional value we attach to it. I can download a free song by an artist but it can still be the most valuable piece of music I own. I really like the pay what you think it is worth scheme of things, in the old days of going down to the CD shop, everything was £11, Beyonce Knowles cost the same as Joy Division. I like free music, I don't think it can diminish the value or worth of a song, my only qualm with it is that you are harming the artist by stopping them from making a living, but you can still support them in other ways. If I could ever be arsed to properly promote any of my music I would only charge a price that would cover my costs and then let people donate or something if they really felt that it had made any difference to their life. I think the free music boom is going to have positive effects of the creative efforts of new artists, now most kids have a discography of 6,000 + songs, George Harrison never had that, with more influences and inspirations we should expect a boom of creative and different music. 2009/11/10 Jared Dunne <22tape@...> > and i wish that those talented artist who are making great tunes and giving > them away for free would stop giving them away for free! make those > fuckers > pay for it! and stop undercutting your worth! .....but thats an arguement > that just goes in circles. > > if anyone would like high quality mp3's of my tunes for free, just let me > know ;-) > > On Tue, Nov 10, 2009 at 8:18 AM, Clint Anderson <clinta@...> wrote: > > > I'm not going to disagree that alot of music is fantastic and worth > paying > > for, but there is also alot of music that is free which is no worse for > > being free. > > > > Clint Anderson > > System Administrator > > > > > > > > On Tue, Nov 10, 2009 at 9:17 AM, kent williams <chaircrusher@... > > >wrote: > > > > > Well I, at least, have now bought more blamstrain than I ever knew > > > existed, and I've hyped Exosphere on the 313 list, where Shake Shakir > > > said nice things about it. > > > > > > Maybe someday all the snot-nosed brats that hang out on this list will > > > figure out that music is worth paying for, even when you can download > > > an artists' complete discography free on bittorrent. > > > > > > On Tue, Nov 10, 2009 at 8:00 AM, Juho Hietala <hietala@...> > wrote: > > > > If you didn't, now would be a great time to get my stuff while it's > > > > still available, and maybe help me out with a few bucks so that I > > > > wouldn't have to sell off all my gear to meet my rent for this month. > > > > I'll be ending the pay what you want experiment in a few weeks. > > > > > > > > -J > > > > > > > > > > > > On Wed, Oct 14, 2009 at 2:55 PM, Juho Hietala <hietala@...> > > wrote: > > > >> I put up statistics (no. of downloads, how many were purchased, how > > > >> much money it's given me) too that I'm going to update every day. > > > >> Welcome to the future! > > > >> > > > >> www.blamstrain.com > > > >> > > > >> -J > > > >> > > > >> On Sun, Oct 11, 2009 at 10:09 AM, Juho Hietala <hietala@...> > > > wrote: > > > >>> Hi! > > > >>> I put everything up for free at 128kbps, and name-your-own-price > for > > > >>> 320k/wav/flac/whatever! > > > >>> > > > >>> http://www.blamstrain.com/ > > > >>> > > > >>> Pick up your copy of such classics as Ensi and Blamstrain Remixed > > now, > > > >>> not to mention my newest stuff! Re: Re: Blamstrain albums available for free / paywhatyouwant downloadI release music myself for free, all the time, that's not what I'm
talking about. I don't even bother putting paypal links on the release pages, or using bandcamp, because I have a good job and I can afford to maintain a website. http://music.cornwarning.com/2009/01/31/so-far-so-so-retrospective-1995-2005/ http://music.cornwarning.com/sargeant-ridiculous-ep/ http://cornwarning.com/Tickertape/ http://cornwarning.com/lackluster/ But I really fucking hate people who think it's cool to get something for nothing. If you like the work of an artist, and they're selling it, don't steal it. I don't care if you BT something to check it out, but the way that talented musicians are able to devote their time to their work is that people are willing to give them money for it. If you aren't willing to pay for an artist's music you're not a fan you're a leech. Re: Re: Blamstrain albums available for free / paywhatyouwant downloadthat's a nice argument but in the end "if everybody liked to do what
they do" and if everyone was giving everything for free it would be much better ;) not depending on money Leonardo Rosado On Nov 10, 2009, at 4:00 PM, Jared Dunne wrote: > as i said this arguement only goes in circles. and i'm alreay > dizzy! but > my arguement begins and end here: > > > >> ....my only qualm with it is that you are harming the artist by >> stopping >> them from making a living.... >> > > if i'm a baker, do i walk around giving my pies away? do i say, > "yes here, > enjoy my nicely baked and yummy pie. its free. and i'll bake even > more > over the next week, and i'll give those to you for free as well. > and the > same the following week, and the following week. i'll give all of > my pies > away for free for the rest of my life because everyone loves pie, and > they're meant to be eaten!" > > > >> >> 2009/11/10 Jared Dunne <22tape@...> >> >>> and i wish that those talented artist who are making great tunes and >> giving >>> them away for free would stop giving them away for free! make those >>> fuckers >>> pay for it! and stop undercutting your worth! .....but thats an >> arguement >>> that just goes in circles. >>> >>> if anyone would like high quality mp3's of my tunes for free, just >>> let me >>> know ;-) >>> >>> On Tue, Nov 10, 2009 at 8:18 AM, Clint Anderson <clinta@...> >> wrote: >>> >>>> I'm not going to disagree that alot of music is fantastic and worth >>> paying >>>> for, but there is also alot of music that is free which is no >>>> worse for >>>> being free. >>>> >>>> Clint Anderson >>>> System Administrator >>>> >>>> >>>> >>>> On Tue, Nov 10, 2009 at 9:17 AM, kent williams <chaircrusher@... >>>>> wrote: >>>> >>>>> Well I, at least, have now bought more blamstrain than I ever knew >>>>> existed, and I've hyped Exosphere on the 313 list, where Shake >>>>> Shakir >>>>> said nice things about it. >>>>> >>>>> Maybe someday all the snot-nosed brats that hang out on this list >> will >>>>> figure out that music is worth paying for, even when you can >>>>> download >>>>> an artists' complete discography free on bittorrent. >>>>> >>>>> On Tue, Nov 10, 2009 at 8:00 AM, Juho Hietala <hietala@...> >>> wrote: >>>>>> If you didn't, now would be a great time to get my stuff while >>>>>> it's >>>>>> still available, and maybe help me out with a few bucks so that I >>>>>> wouldn't have to sell off all my gear to meet my rent for this >> month. >>>>>> I'll be ending the pay what you want experiment in a few weeks. >>>>>> >>>>>> -J >>>>>> >>>>>> >>>>>> On Wed, Oct 14, 2009 at 2:55 PM, Juho Hietala <hietala@...> >>>> wrote: >>>>>>> I put up statistics (no. of downloads, how many were purchased, >> how >>>>>>> much money it's given me) too that I'm going to update every >>>>>>> day. >>>>>>> Welcome to the future! >>>>>>> >>>>>>> www.blamstrain.com >>>>>>> >>>>>>> -J >>>>>>> >>>>>>> On Sun, Oct 11, 2009 at 10:09 AM, Juho Hietala >>>>>>> <hietala@... >>> >>>>> wrote: >>>>>>>> Hi! >>>>>>>> I put everything up for free at 128kbps, and name-your-own- >>>>>>>> price >>> for >>>>>>>> 320k/wav/flac/whatever! >>>>>>>> >>>>>>>> http://www.blamstrain.com/ >>>>>>>> >>>>>>>> Pick up your copy of such classics as Ensi and Blamstrain >>>>>>>> Remixed >>>> now, >>>>>>>> not to mention my newest stuff! Re: Re: Blamstrain albums available for free / paywhatyouwant downloadNo, but if one day someone figures out how to make pies for free, you're
going to go out of business. Do we still have ice men deliver ice to our icechests in our homes? Chimney sweeps? Milkmen? we don't even have any full service gas stations in town here... so what happened to all those jobs? I do computer work, if someday system administration becomes so trivial and simple that nobody wants to hire system admins, im out of a job, i can be unhappy about it, but thats the free market. there is a more or less infinite supply of music out there, and a fixed demand, the value of music is steadily decreasing as more and more people are able to make more and more of it for less and deliver it for nothing.
